Time for the most underachieving sport in performance to participation ratio to sort its **** out so people, myself included, might have a reason to flick over from the Olympics to watch.

Why do I suspect that Martin (reasonably good bowler) been replaced by Southee (I'll happily face him) is at least partly down to the former's batting ability rathe than bowling ability given SOuthee well isn't that good most of the time.

We'd love to but we don't have any damn off-spinners.
It's West Indies. Just pick someone who can roll their arm over and keep it on a length. On some pitches that's enough to get a hatful - in others you'll just be keeping it down to 2-2.5 an over and getting a random wicket now and then.

If New Zealand think Williamson can do that role then fair enough (as I said for the first Test he'd be a 4th bowling option ahead of the seamer who's having an off day - and that he should get through a decent number of overs), but there should still be cover. Having Nethula as your only available specialist option is a very bad situation to be in. You don't really want a random spin bowler in West Indies, you want a consistent one.

They've basically been forced into picking 4 seamers here. It may work it may not, but you want the choice.

You'd think Southee's bowling in the ODIs helped him a bit. Dropping Martin is surprising though. I didn't think they would have the balls to do it.

As I said before though, the only offie even remotely close to justifying selection would be Jeetan Patel, and his last recall consisted of going within an inch of costing New Zealand a Test in Zimbabwe.

Williamson would genuinely be right up there.

Yep, especially with Vettori already ruled out. Good to see though, Martin was piss poor during the last test and for the most part was useless against South Africa earlier in the year.
