This looks good to me. Some of the criticism leveled at Dravid is that his SR is too slow for a number 3 in tests. It's true, his strike rate is slow, but it doesn't matter heaps.Perhaps a compromise;
Dravid
Hammond
Sobers
Pietersen
I think that the side should get full value from the fourth or fifth greatest batsman of all time. Sobers talent is wasted at No.6 IMO.
Amla's strike rate was 58. In test match cricket, that's cranking.Don't know why any player's SR is coming into the question to be honest! This is test cricket. Hashim Amla has just shown us the value of an extremely patient number three batsman, too.
Marcuss has timed out! MrPrez is up.
Yeah it's really interesting! Trumper, Hill, Woolley, McCabe and Macartney shine through especiallyNice bit of stats there Jager, didn't know Hill had such great strike rate
I read this guy Herbie Taylor made all of his runs in very tough pitches; that strike rate is amusingYeah it's really interesting! Trumper, Hill, Woolley, McCabe and Macartney shine through especially
I think that they used rubber matting in South Africa when SF Barnes was bowling to him. All the batsman had a terrible time of it as a result. But Herbie Taylor seemed to have coped better than most.I read this guy Herbie Taylor made all of his runs in very tough pitches; that strike rate is amusing
That SR is taken from an 6 ball sample though - not the most solid of statisticsI read this guy Herbie Taylor made all of his runs in very tough pitches; that strike rate is amusing
I don't care if you are rude Jager. You can be as rude or as pleasant as you like as long as your arguments are sound and you obviously care about your cricket. It's not like you're my mother or anyone like that. It's the internet, not real life, if you get what I mean.Didn't mean that in a rude way, by the way. You might find this interesting actually, gives us a good idea of what the oldies may have been like (although I always add 10 onto the strike rates of pre-ODI players if I am thinking about how they would bat now).

I'm a fan of players like Barrington who can bat all day and wear down opponents so you may see a bit of that in drafts I'm involved in. I like to have a solid top 6 generally.Pretty dour team there Himannv, but no denying its strength. Imagine having to get Lawry, Hanif, Barrington and May out
This is a true ol' school test team I reckon.01. Bill Lawry
02. Hanif Mohammad
03. George Headley
04. Kan Barrington
05. Dennis Compton
06. Peter May
07. Imran Khan*
08. Godfrey Evans+
09. Alan Davidson
10. Derek Underwood
11. Frank Tyson
12. Bobby Peel
Have been wondering whether to play Peel ahead of Underwood but I think I've got it right.
