Quick World ATG XI draft- No Bradman

Jager

International Debutant
Massive toss-up for openers, here.

Sid Barnes

Now I've got the 'other halves' of the greatest opening partnerships ever. Suicide Sid was a superb talent and his numbers definitely back me up here. His aggression was a reason I picked him, so that overall my team has a generally aggressive mindset with batting, but with reliable, slower players to glue the side together and guarantee them from collapse.

1. Herbert Sutcliffe
2. Sid Barnes
3. Rahul Dravid
4. Brian Lara
5. Everton Weekes
6. Denis Lindsay+
7. Keith Miller*
8. Hugh Tayfield
9. Andy Roberts
10. Clarrie Grimmett
11. Waqar Younis

Had Sid Barnes not been "difficult" (he may have had mental illness), he would have been remembered as the greatest opener ever, eclipsing Hobbs etc. Unfortunately he didn't play nearly enough tests.

One classic story is told of the "Invincibles" tour. Bradman and Barnes both sat out an early game (against a county?) and their team nearly lost. Bradman said something like "I guess if we are going to win every game, one of either Sid or I should play every game".

Gives an indication of how good he was when Bradman says that about him. Bradman generally didn't say things unless they were serious and considered.

Initially yes, then let the "mud slinging" commence!

But really, all these sides are pretty decent, so the mud will be minimal...
They are all fairly decent, because of sml draft size. 10 -12 players is best, after that is too much as it takes too long and gets diluted a bit.

Jager's team I would describe as one that has the ability to 'counter-punch' when put under pressure.

In-other-words, it seems to have enough unpredictable players that can turn a game on its head quicky with a burst of brilliance.

Just thought something up. Would anyone want to participate in a draft league? We would have one thread here where we continuously draft teams, probably with 12 contenders and altering rulesets to keep things from going stale. We could vote on the winners as usual (three votes per voter) and the top three are awarded 3, 2 and 1 points respectively.

I believe that we are waiting for smali again. Interestingly enough he posted in a different thread a short time ago. I'm not sure how his brain works, but it's very interesting. Certainly worth an MRI :D

I posted about it above, I want to start one. If we have enough participants it would be sweet, and we can continuously draft between each other in the single thread.
