It's the way of the future, resting bowlers, even in Tests. It's annoying, but if there's an around the clock schedule it's going to be the reality unfortunately.Well Darren Gough has said many times that he was more tired at the end of a one day international than a day of test cricket when he had bowled 20-25 overs. His reasoning being that for every delivery in the one day game you are giving maximum effort as every run counts yet in a test match you have plans where you don't need to be 100% all the time so mentally it isn't as tiring.
It would be interesting to hear what current players say about the strains on the body/mind of each different form of the game.
For me i'd be happy to rest players in one day series and give players like Woakes and Dernbach games (obviously current circumstances may rule out Dernbach) as well as batsmen like Taylor and Butler.
Because he had to have been sure Gayle was out to raise the finger.how do you come to this conclusion?
It will be the way teams go. Simply have to as no player even a batsman can play every game in all forms as they will burn out. It's the way of the future, resting bowlers, even in Tests. It's annoying, but if there's an around the clock schedule it's going to be the reality unfortunately.
Tipping in five or so years it will be the accepted norm, whether we like it or not.
They get to spend three days at home in 7 months I've heard, pretty crazy.@Cricket_Ali:

But yeah, resting has to happen.
i'd guess it's as much mental as physical. Few days holiday, refresh, back for the t20You should be just banned from having access to twitter.
Broad and Bresnan I can understand but Swann? I mean ffs he's a spinner. #nocountryforslowmen
I hope you're right, I would like to see how Woakes and Meaker perform on the big-ish stage.I think england might rest finn tomorrow also and go 7-11, patel, woakes, meaker, dernbach, anderson.
I'd rather they rested players from the limited overs formats.@Cricket_Ali:

Not disagreeing with you, but he took 6/45 in that ODI against Australia.Woakes is a poor one day bowler up to this point and at present doesn't have the weapons to be useful in ODI cricket - low to mid 80's speed, 6'2'', conventional action, no great death bowling skills. Of course his batting makes him attractive but he needs to do more with the ball and be more consistent in one day cricket to be seriously considered imo - and he may never have enough white ball skills to nail down a place consistently in ODI cricket.
It's a shame for him that the test team is that much stronger than the ODI team at present because 4 day cricket is definitely his best format and as was mentioned earlier if his batting continues to improve he could definitely be an option at 7 in a 5 man attack which would give england a load of options.

Yeah, the two-year drought that water companies were worried about a few short months ago has certainly been ended with a vengeance!Horrendous weather for summer!
Don't know, he bowled really well that game, whether he deserved 6 wickets I don't know but I wouldn't say he didn't deserve them. The next game was that 333 plays 334 game and just about everyone on both sides got carted in that match.Hmm, that 6/45 was nowhere near as good as the figures suggested IIRC.
Also got absolutely carted in the next game.

Looks OK for the T20 at Trent Bridge starting in a couple of hours.Horrendous weather for summer!
