Would Stuart Broad make the world's strongest XI?

A big fan of Broad but I wouldn't pick him for a World XI and I also wouldn't consider him to be an 'all-rounder'. Also, Siddle near a world XI is really embarrassing and I don't think that world bowling stocks are quite that bad currently.

1) Thread needs more Dougeh. Dougeh > Patto. Pattinson beat up us and India. Anyone can do that.
2) Everyone has been beating up India lately, apart from Philander who beats up everyone. India are/were a quality team so you can't take it away from these ****s but ****ed if I can remember how everyone has gone against teams other than them. The English bowled superbly in the UAE, as did Pakistan. Ajmal and Rehman deffo have to be breathing down Swann's neck, and the bowlers who smoked all the batsmen bar Clarke in that lollacious series in SA deserve props.

Depends if you rate beating up India at home, Pakistan away and Windies at home more than Australia at home, Sri Lanka at home and New Zealand away.

4) Yeah Broad probably does, but I'm torn. For mine it's him or Philander. Broad has had harder assignments than Philander, but Philander's numbers are so ridiculous they cannot be ignored.

Depends what you call an all rounder. I place far greater stock in bowling than batting all rounders because yada yada yada....

Really? Obviously it can make a good tiebreaker between bowlers, but a batting all-rounder offers a 5th bowling option, more often than not you still have to play the bowling all-rounder at 8...
I'm not a Stuart Broad fan at all, however his form over the past 2 years can't really be denied. If I were to go out and pick an XI to play the Martians tomorrow, he'd definitely be in it.
He's demolished pretty much everyone put in front of him, and when you consider that he's had more competition for wickets, through Jimmy, Swann and Bres, than anyone else (until Philander came along and took all of Steyn's), his stats look pretty amazing TBH.
Philander vs Broad is incredibly close IMO, but I think Broad's batting just gets him into the side.
Current World XI (to play the Martians)
1. Warner
2. Cook
3. Trott
4. de Villiers
5. Clarke
6. Chanderpaul
7. Prior
8. Broad
9. Steyn
10. Anderson
11. Ajmal
Reserves: Swann, Philander, Williamson, Watson and Siddle.
Not necessarily the best players at this level, but the ones who I think could transfer their skills to the level above. Warner probably the most out-there pick, but very few openers have been knocking the door down as of late, and I think the aggressive approach might be worth the risk. Williamson more an intuitive pick, given I was also considering Sangakkara and Younis Khan for the same spot.

Truth is I don't give a rats arse. Pick your best eleven. Four bowlers should do. Depends if I want an excuse to get someone like Kallis or Imran in a team.

To be fair there are still some who are picking Swann over Ajmal as well. Whatever we think of Ajmal's action he clearly outbowled Swann in the head to head series this year so anyone still siding with Swann is being ridiculous.
All about opinions I guess, some we agree with others we don't.

He did, Monty did too. Swann was poor by his own standards on that tour. Maybe we have come to expect too much from him, he is no Warne/Murali is he?

I didn't miss it, I did say whatever we think of his action in my comment too which I think covers me.
Anyway, got hangover from hell so it unfair to be picking me up on stuff like that, thinking makes my head hurt more.

Yeah cheers. I thougt it was early on. I was OS at the time, didn't see hardly any of that match fortunately

Steyn, Philander and Anderson are similar type of bowlers. Steyn is a natural pick and Philander has been performing better so I would pick them. Broad provides a variety so I would pick him as the third.

Swann had the best strike rate of all the England bowlers in the UAE funnily enough.
