Thought that sounded out, suprised at how half arsed that appeal was.

Hotspot confirms. Interesting.

The way they appealed I presumed it must have hit the thigh pad.

Both sides have failed to review a certain wicket then so far.

Looked good has Strauss. Can't remember a single play and miss.

EDIT: Also struggling to recall one that's seriously moved off the straight, mind, occasional one aside

Lovely half-century from Strauss but he will be inevitably hoping to get the one century in 50 innings monkey off his back. He looks determined and in good touch and if he manages a three figure score it will be the perfect start, individually, to an exciting summer of cricket.

The signs looked good for Strauss with a lovely cover drive early in his innings, not a shot you would associate with an out of form Strauss (and not always an in-form Strauss either).

Yes there's been little through the air or off the pitch, have conditions really changed that much or does this go to emphasise the mastery Anderson, in particular, has of swing bowling ?

Gabriel looks nothing special to me. He may pick up wickets in this game but he won't have a long and successful Test career, imo. The exclusion of Shillingford for Gabriel is a poor move.

Reminds me of Umesh Yadav in a way. Quick with a easy-looking action but doesn't hit the seam at all.

Absolutely ridiculous move

God knows what they were thinking to drop the most successful bowler from their last series for a completely unknown quantity, particularly when the former bowls the sort of stuff that the English have a well known weakness to

If they were going to gamble, they may as well have punted on Rampaul's fitness and dropped Edwards

Touring finger spinners at Lord's have done sod all for some time. It may not be a great decision but it's not without basis.

England always go with two specialist openers. They could have used an extra bowler. A spinner. Either Strauss turns up or Cook does. It doesn't work both ways. Chanderpaul by far the best batsman in the match so far. Wicket has flattened. 40 ball since the last boundary. Edwards by far Windies best bowler. Even though wicket is now flat and now will spin.

Agree that both have natural speed and a lack of seam movement but Yadav can extract good swing on his day and is more conventional and less slingy in action.
