Wonderful effort from Straussy! Should quieten down any serious critics out there for now, but more importantly it sets him up nicely for the summer, so important for the captain to be in the runs and have that confident aura while leading the team into various challenges.

Handy century to keep the media off his back but he's not really demonstrating anything we didn't already know, given the standard of bowling.

Strauss doesn't need to demonstrate anything we don't know, it';s simply a case of him getting back to the kind of form that takes him to these big scores.

Wow that was a bad over. Absolutely awful - Roach can feel lucky he only went for 10, frankly.

He's really quite crap. Has been for years. But England don't want to be dropping him because it would upset the whole system. Innings like this are great news because it means they can avoid acknowledging that he's crap for a while longer.

In the grand scheme of things Strauss will go down as a relatively mediocre player but "really quite crap" is pushing it.

He really isn't. England won't like dropping him because alongside being an excellent leader of the side, he happens to be a very accomplished opening batsman that has had a rough trot like any other player in the world endures. Hopefully now he's coming out the other side and can push on this summer.

I think with the winter England as a team suffered, the captain showing signs of returning to a bit of form are a massive positive.
