The club hardly quash the hype though, and the way they act when chasing players etc. (plus the way no mention is ever made of their financial situation) is enough for people to take a dislike.

Conviniently forgetting of course that they did win this competition last year. They have had a poor season and there are a number of issues they need to address but having one shocking week does not make them 'the most overrated team ever' and missing one penalty does not make Messi a choker, Hey Even Clayton Donaldson misses them from time to time. Everyone loves knocking people of pedestals though.
