Conviniently forgetting of course that they did win this competition last year. They have had a poor season and there are a number of issues they need to address but having one shocking week does not make them 'the most overrated team ever' and missing one penalty does not make Messi a choker, Hey Even Clayton Donaldson misses them from time to time. Tbf, that hype doesn't come from Barcelona itself, but more from media companies who are determined to get maximum returns on their TV deals etc...

Tbf that sounds like quite a realistic assessment given how poor Chelsea have been this season. It's how the bookies saw it too.

Might just be that I watched the games in pubs without paying attention to the TV commentary. Pubs in England are definitely not short of old men ready to insist that the latest highly-technical Spanish team that dives a lot isn't all it's cracked up to be.

I have encountered an awful lot of what Uppercut is saying as well but yeah there is no doubt many people in the media have been going crazy over them, but that's the world we live in. Anyone who saw them demolish Real Madrdid 5-0 last season knows this side is pretty special.

They have their fauts just like pretty much all great sides but 5 consecutive semi finals in the champions league shows a remarkable level of consistency.

The club hardly quash the hype though, and the way they act when chasing players etc. (plus the way no mention is ever made of their financial situation) is enough for people to take a dislike.

AWTA. I also disagree about the British press - well as far as I get to view their opinions. They really trumpet Barca and last night the Skysports crew all thought Barca would win by several goals and gave Chelsea no chance. IIRC Hoddle was disappointed Chelsea were playing deep. LOL

Haha I don't think you can really criticise them for that though. I can't think of any teams who've received high amounts of acclaim from the media and pundits alike who've actually taken active steps to downplay and belittle the praise they receive.
