Best week of racing of the year starts tomorrow.
Can the Fly retain his crown and will any of the 3 odds on hotpots on day 1 get beaten?
Don't fancy Sprinter Sacre at those odds, was outstayed up the hill last year by Al Ferof and while he has been brilliant this season all his form is on flat tracks and Al Ferof loves Cheltenham.
Would imagine Hurricane Fly will retain his crown, only danger is Zarkandar who is unexposed and unbeaten, could be anything. Ruby choosing the champ is telling though.
As for Quevega, surely just has to turn up to win yet again.
Other races all look tough as you would expect at Cheltenham, powder being kept dry for later in the week for likes of Pearl Swan and Ulck Du Lin.

Are there any CW'ers on here that own or have ownership shares in a racehorse? My old man has shares in a few horses and it's been awesome following them, I'm now a convert to the sport. I'd definitely recommend it to anybody that has been considering buying into a horse, even if it's only a small share.
We currently have a 2yo filly being trained by Stephen Farley.
Kerry Parker trains our other horse named 'Planet Purple', who's done quite well in his career so far.

Yeah, I have a 3% share in three horses here in NZ. Two of them have won races (and one of those ran a beauty of a race for 2nd just the other day), and the other's only 2 years old and hasn't raced yet.
So it's a small share and the horses are racing at low levels, so there's not much financial return, but it's an incredible thrill.

Nice.
It's an awesome thrill watching your horse win, as you said. A lot of people buy small shares for that reason, just for the fun and excitement. Being related to an owner has it's benefits as well, having unrestricted access to all areas of the racetrack and all that other stuff. Hearing the feedback from the jockey is always interesting.
I'm still very new to the horseracing though and I've got heaps to learn about it in general. What's the standard of horceracing like in NZ compared to other countries?

I'm probably biased, but I reckon it's really good.
Have to be realistic and accept that we can't match the prize money offered in some other countries, so as a result we don't have the same depth.
NZ has a great reputation for breeding talented horses, so there's huge demand for them overseas. Massive offers come in, and if a horse is only coming 4th or 5th in our big races here, the difference in those amounts of money makes selling the horses a no-brainer.
But we do have awesome horses at the very top of the talent pool. We pick up a big race or two in Sydney and Melbourne every year. Jimmy Choux flew the flag last season, and Mufhasa and Sangster have already done it this season.
We're sending over a pretty special filly now called Silent Achiever. She makes her Australian debut in the Rosehill Guineas on Saturday. I think she's a star in the making.
Tricky draw, though, so she may be vulnerable this time. But I think she'll win a good race in Aussie.

Indeed. All Too Hard just cruised home at the end there, he never looked in doubt. It'll be him or Samaready that take out the slipper providing they both race. The NZ horse that you mentioned, Silent Achiever, didn't disgrace itself either on debut.
Also, look out for my old man's horse Planet Purple tommorow
. It's racing tommorrow at Randwick (Race 3).

The Grand National race is a complete joke. Horses die in that event every year. Having horses run 7200m with jumps is just ridiculous and cruel. I've only recently become interested in horse racing but from what I've seen jumps racing is a joke.
On a brighter note, I've been lucky enough to attend the Golden Slipper and Derby Day this year. They both were very enjoyable, especially when you have a horse running in one of those big events. Atlantic Jewel looks a very, very special horse.

I don't have a problem with jumps racing in general, but I strongly dislike the Grand National - especially the field size of 40, which I believe is absolutely outrageous.
It definitely wouldn't be in my top 10 races in the world. But I'm lucky enough to be going to two this year that definitely are - the Kentucky Derby and Epsom Derby. They might be my top two, actually, so I'm really really excited about being there.

He was a true champion. He was one of the best horses I've had the pleasure of seeing race in NZ - possibly even 2nd best behind Sunline.

Best I've seen Frankel run. The thing is an absolute freak.
Have been trying to get bites all day on twitter, but really, think Frankel is on another level to Caviar. Even if it's just because of how they do it; Caviar does enough every time without ever stretching itself, but Frankel's a big dirty show-off, and I love it.
