How could you not love him?

It has been a long long winter but got something out of it at last.

Pietersen for me, I think, because his innings gave the bowlers some breathing space second time out. Wouldn't begrudge Swann it though.

MOTS a lock for Jayawardene you'd have thought, but a shout out to Swanneh who seemed to be under some pressure from certain quarters pre-series and took 16 @ 22. WAG.

KP. Any spinner worth his salt got something in this match.
Inclined to agree. Not just how many he scored but how he scored them too.

Two thoughts:

1) We must always play Bresnan; did almost literally nothing but...

2) Two test series suck arse. How good would a decider be now?

International Vice-Captain
Pietersen will take all the plaudits and rightly so but Cook the real batting hero for me. Set up both innings. Generally its upto Cook and Trott to set up England these days. If they fail, normally England fail.

Nasser bag on, I reckon. Really think dropping Strauss would be an awful decision.

"He's not the first England captain to need some runs" and really fighting to supress a sly grin

Strauss is safe for the time being as he's only the fourth or fifth worst batsmen in the top six. Until we get an established #6 and/or Bell recovers from his slump/continues with his reversion to the mean I think he's good.

It's still a legitimate question though and the circling of the wagons from Team England ("How dare the press entertain the thought of dropping Sir Andrew?! He plays like the bastard offspring of Jardine & Hobbs!!") after four straight defeats (all due to batting, pretty much) has been slightly unedifying.
