A friend of mine said he looked average when he played for Middlesex a few years back? Was that an anomaly or has he improved drastically. I know his performances in SA have always been good in FC cricket.

He's got a little bit quicker since he improved his fitness levels, but by all reports he's always been as he is bar that. Is there any chance your friend only saw him play limited overs cricket for Middlesex? Because for some reason he's always been absolutely rank at that; still is.

Yes. That is the likelihood. His First Class performances for Middlesex were not outstanding though in that season. It'll be interesting to track how he does through the season.
