18 all out
And that with a Kenyan international, Seren Waters (20 ODIs) opening the batting. They were 18-6 in the first innings by way of a preview, but unfortunately for them a guy who made 24 then was absent today. Lowest f-c total in England since some county side made 14 in 1983, I forget who ... :whistling

David Wainwright was a low-key signing for Derbyshire, but he could be a useful one - Northants have tumbled to 122-7 in a match that seemed to be drifting to a draw. I make it about 17 overs to go there.

Very good signing for them, will probably get 50 wickets and over 500 runs which will be great for them.

Yep. Given Rashid is deteriorating at a rate of knots I'm surprised Yorkshi*e didn't loan him out for a full season. He should be ahead of Rashid by then.

Has he publicly said he doesn't want to play for Zimbabwe? He would be guaranteed a place for them, while with England he's always going to be one of the chasing pack. Simply saying you want to play for England doesn't mean you get picked, as Kervezee has found. Didn't even get on the Lions tour despite a good season with Worcs.

Of course if he did play for Zim he'd become an overseas player, and might have trouble getting a county contract. So he could end up in a sort of Ervine-type limbo, playing for neither.
Has Kerveezee got a UK passport yet, even? Can't be picked until he does. Ballance at least is a British subject.

Ah, that I don't know, I thought he was already eligible. Would explain his non-selection of course.

Dockrell took six today I see. I hope there isn't going to be a lot of hype about him now (not that the CC is all that high profile). Even with that haul he only has 38 f-c wickets, very few of them for Somerset. In time he, rather than Rashid or Kerrigan, may prove to be the long-term successor to Swann, and no doubt we'll hear the usual chorus of booing if that happens.

Give over, he had a poor season last that's it, the year before he averaged 46 with bat and 31 with the ball. Everyone around Headingley said on Saturday and how much better he's looked in pre-season and in this match with the ball, getting good flight, drift and not giving away to many freebees, which has been his problem recently.

I agree with you that Wainright should have been loaned out but who knows the circumstances behind why he's left, very useful cricketer but not as front line spin bowler, averages about 37 for us with the ball but he's also mid 30's with the bat.

As for Dockrell, hope he doesn't get near the England team tbh, much prefer Briggs or Kerrigan and from what I've seen of all them, I like the look of Briggs the most.

Last year Rashid was basically a T20/List A specialist bowling flat non-turning stuff. I hope he's improved but the game against Kent wasn't promising from a statistical point of view. A spinner of quality wouldn't be getting hit around like he was in that 9th wicket partnership for Kent.

I'll go on what the people who were actually watching the game said to me and better spinners than Rashid have been belted around by tailenders on the slog, which happened after he had been bowling for nearly 2 full days and 40 overs.

Everyone that watches him knows that he isn't the greatest spin bowler in the world, he never will be, what he offers Yorkshire is his all-round ability with ball and bat.

What a statistical point of view doesn't tell you is the pitch offered absolutely zero for the spinners on a pitch that was seeing it's first cricket since last year..

Really, what has Dockrell done wrong for you then? Younger than both, and has performed at an International level. Not like Somerset have just shown an interest because of his Irish performances either, been tracking him for years now. Would have played a lot last year if it wasn't for his injury, and probably the reason we haven't replaced Kartik with another spinner.

Edit: Anyway nice to see some promising spinners coming through with DRS, can hope to see them contributing in years to come in all forms.

Oh come on he got belted for 70-80 runs for his 15 overs or so he bowled against two tailenders, one of whom averaged 10. Doesn't matter what the pitch is like a wrist spinner shouldn't be getting played out like that.

Can't really see that.I couldn't understand why Surrey picked him up (unless it's for a future coaching role). They have Linley as a very similar bowler - and probably as good now.

Most Wickets in County Championship: Ryan Sid-e-Bottarm if his body holds up
Most Runs in CC: Trescothick
Division One Champions: Nottinghamshire
Division One Bottom 2: Warwickshire, Middlesex
Division Two Top 2: Yorkshire, Essex
Division Two Wooden Spoon: Northamptonshire
T20 Champions: No idea - don't really care
CB40 Champions: Flip a coin - Somerset
Quickest Hundred in CC: Tom Maynard
Young Cricketer of the Year: Lewis Gregory (if his batting's as good as Somerset reckon and he maintains (or improves) his bowling form the kid's some talent)
Cricketer of the Year: Marcus Trescothick
Failure of the Year: Eoin Morgan (in any non swish and giggle stuff), Tim Murtagh (will struggle against Div One batting - especially as he won't have Finn at the other end much, if at all, this season).
Batting at NO.6 for England in the last test of the summer: Jonny Bairstow

Good win for Surrey yesterday. Their problem in recent years has been starting slowly so hopefully.......

I guess Surrey will rotate, so your probably right, but I doubt he'll play in one-day stuff, unlike the others, and this is just for County stuff.

Hard category to gauge really, most of the options seem old or injury-prone or both.

I should have clarified but I really don't want to turn this into another thread about foreign players playing for England. I can except having players in the England side due to parentage but not another Irish guy.

Don't get me wrong he seems to be a decent little bowler but no better than a couple of young English players around. Same goes for Rankin as well.
