Hasn't Pattinson taken at least four in an innings in every test he's played so far?It is a pretty tricky situation we have going atm. On one hand you have Harris, who is the best bowler we have, but always has injury concerns and most likely only has a year or two left in him anyway. And on the other hand you have Pattinson, who is probably the least likely of the 4 fast bowlers to put up a reliable performance (still probably a bit hot or cold with him) but is very much the future of our bowling attack and needs as much experience as he can get. So what do you do? Do you go in with the simple mentality of just putting in the best available attack, in which case Harris is surely a part of that (and Pattinson could well be the one to miss out)? Or does Harris get a more backseat role, with selectors using him only as a substitution player if an injury occurs or someone needs resting etc?
Pretty much, minus one or two innings. It's sort of beside the point though...in the India series, which has been the only time he bowled in tandem with Hilf and Siddle, while he still bowled very well, he just didn't have the same consistency spell-to-spell that the others had. That's what I meant by he is still a bit hot or cold. It's not really much of a criticism though, because overall he has still been very effective.Hasn't Pattinson taken at least four in an innings in every test he's played so far?
It's a tough call. Looking ahead to the Ashes tour, and assuming (erroneously no doubt) a lack of injuries, is the pace attack looking like Siddle, Hilf, Patto, Cummins, Harris? Maybe Copeland in the mix in an Alderman-type role?
I assume they'll take five quicks only. If they do, I really hope they have back ups playing County cricket over there too.
That's not entirely true though, because his opening spells against NZ (aside from his very shakey first/debut one) were excellent and when he looked the most threatening. I remember during that series thinking he will be an awesome new ball bowler, but might struggle a little in the later overs, but then the opposite occured in the Indian series...he always seemed to bounce back really well after a poor start. So I think at this stage he just has some general inconsistency, which is totally expected I guess given his age and inexperience.Has an issue with his rhythm first up. Some of his first spells have been decidedly average.
