Alec Stewart was primarily a wicketkeeping opening batsman for England during the 90's. A true team man, he placed the final outcome ahead of his own personal performance at all times. His wicketkeeping was extremely reliable, as was his wonderful touch batting against quality pace. Against spin, his natural, timing-reliant style let him down often, only managing an average of 23.77 in Asia. He also captained England for 15 matches and batted in every position from second to sixth over 15 times, showing his versatility as a player. Batting in second position, he averaged 45.50.
