***Official*** England in Sri Lanka 2012

Galle starts making pitches with something in it for the bowlers and the ICC moans about it.

Honestly it bugs me no end they act as if the pitches are minefields when they're not. Batsmen score on them and score big. Its also a good deal more interesting to watch.

Going to be really hard to get to a decent score without Samaraweera. Bad wicket to lose so close to the end of the day's play.

WTF?

Nothing shot. Whenever i switch over to the match, a wicket falls that over.
Walked downstairs in office to watch just in time to see Samaraweera go. Perhaps this cricket thing is not for you and me. We should restrict ourselves to just watching the highlights.

This awesome-bowlers dire-batsmen thing England have going on is making for some seriously good tests.

Sure we're not good at all in these conditions but our batsmen really aren't as bad as everyone is making out... I fully expect us to get back home and the majority will bat perfectly fine against WI/SA.

Indeed!

Yet, anything under 300 should be possible, even for England's batsmen, if they apply themselves. They won't see a fifth-day minefield!

Big if, but still. This is a good pitch as far as I can tell.

I dunno. These are pretty rare levels of ineptitude we're seeing here. I mean, if it's fair to criticise subcontinental batsmen for being useless at handling bounce, then it's fair to criticise this lot for being useless against the ball that might occasionally turn.

Cook is fine, Prior isn't having a dire time although not up to his usual high standards, Bell should be fine at home, KP you'd think would get himself sorted.

Trott I'm slightly worried about, had an awesome run but maybe isn't really that good... that leaves Strauss who clearly needs to get things sorted out soon or he's got a problem, and the fact that we have Joe Bloggs unestablished to finish off the line-up.

Really don't think that's smart tone to take with a mod...
With all due respect..

I don't think CBX304 would lose his sleep if he is banned from the site. He has stated his opinion and given back as good as he got in terms of abuse....i like that. It should make no difference if it's a mod on the other side of the argument...

fair play...

What does the bolded mean?

Now that's out of the way...

No, my argument is not fallacious. You can't know for sure how good someone is unless he's been tried; what is quite clear from what we have seen in UAE and so far here is that Bell and KP are simply not good enough against this type of bowling in these conditions.

Neither you nor I nor anyone else can second guess how someone will perform. When someone is not performing, he should be dropped. If that does not happen (on the unproven contention that there's nobody better out there) there is no pressure on the incumbents to perform, or to get better, or to iron out their weaknesses.

By mentioning Taylor you create a straw man by implying that I am recommending that Bell/KP should be replaced by him. I have not done so. He is not the only option; there are probably three or four batsmen that I would play ahead of him and whom I am confident would, given time, acquit themselves better against the likes of Ajmal, Rehman, and Herath than Bell anbd KP have done. But first they must be given the chance.

As for reporting me, that information could quite easily have been conveyed in a PM. As far as I'm aware, I haven't been banned; until I am, you might as well keep your thoughts about my posting to yourself.

For the record - given that you have in the past felt inclined to give me your unsolicited opinions as to the quality of my posting - I find your posting to be, not condescending, but, worse: petty and stupid - as in your reference to my "ideal fantasy world", when you know full well what I meant, and have yourself probably made similar types of mental adjustment in the past. I don't hold such malicious flights of fancy against you, for it seems you have very little else to offer.

Shall we call it a day?
Good analysis generally dude.

I bought your analysis since most of it was ex-ante and turned out true (still does)

Nah they are horrible. Asia is almost half of the cricketing world and they palpably struggle to bat on proper Asian turning wickets.

Subcontinental batsmen cop it for struggling against bounce of non-Asian tracks and get ridiculed for it. Fair is fair.

It's not even the ones that turn - Bell got a good one, fair enough, but a good deal of them were just length balls which skidded on!

Yeah true. Need to modify it from "turning wickets" to "slow pitch" or "any pitch where curry is a staple"

Yet whenever questioned you decline to name them, just revert to type and post **** about the incumbents.

Think they'll do alright at home against South Africa and whoever else they play. It's more a mental problem than anything else now, IMO.

Still a lot of cricket left, too.
