I currently have an Arsenal fan and a Spurs fan sat next to each other at the front of my classroom, purely for entertainment value. Three weeks ago they bet that they would eat their own shoes if the other side finished higher in the league (they're 10/11).

Monday mornings are an amusing spectacle.

Thoughts on 2 managers

Redknapp. Never heard a more whiny, ungrateful, **** when beaten. Cannot credit the opposition, everythings the world against his team. No Harry, your not are just ****


Moyes: Everyone praises how he gets the best out of players etc. Well look at Saha, he's improved a million times in a few weeks. Yes I know he's a sulky player, and didnt like not being first choice at Utd, but at Everton he should've been the big fish in the pond, but Moyes still managed to upset him. Its that very player Moyes needs to show he can manage if he wants to take on a big club, not just the determined but mediocre's like Osman and Hibbert.

Dunno, always handled Thomas Gravesen pretty well, and he's not exactly of mild character.

Doubt he'll ever take on a big side, not sure he's cut out for it. Done a great job at Everton though, given the absolutely awful state they were in when he took over. Not exactly had great wads of cash to throw around either. Might not have got the best out of Saha, but he managed to turn Leon Osman, Tony Hibbert, Lee Carsley and numerous others into serviceable top level players.

Yeah, that's Comolli's sole job at the club, as Director of Strategy, as far as I know. It's why he throws in needless comments like after the Carling Cup Final when he mentioned we've already got big name players lined up for the Summer. I think he know how much pressure there is at the moment because he's done so tremendously badly.

Can't imagine Dalglish not getting a say though. Imagine the awfully high prices is down to Comolli though.

I’m pretty keen on Henderson, think he is halfway decent, about a 2 million pound player but the likes of Downing, Adam and Carroll are two-bob. Comolli laid down 100 million last summer to get them to 7th, how much do they need to spend to get them into a Champions League place? Liverpool's best players outside Suarez are the free transfer signings Bellamy (who Kenny likes to make bench warm) and Maxi (who Kenny likes to make bench warm).

Yeah, I agree on Henderson. I know on here he gets lots of hate but I think he's shown he's actually reasonable when he's played in his actual position rather than shunted onto the right.

Maxi's definitely not one of our best players though, IMO. Would probably take the likes of Skrtel, Reina, Agger, Enrique, Gerrard etc. over Maxi, and possibly even Bellamy. We have a good base for a side with those mentioned as well as Suarez, but we just spent lots of money on absolute ****e. If we had brought in the likes of Aguero, Mata, etc. who cost similar amounts, there's no question that we'd be in the top 4, possibly even title challenging.

The days of Liverpool buying Europe's top talent are gone and delusions aren't going to help you. Whether or not I think it's a good thing or not isn't really the point, but saying "if we bought Mata and Aguero we'd be title challenging" is a ridiculous point to make. Any team could say that, doesn't mean you had any chance of paying matching wages to what they're getting at their current clubs and you can't even promise better results than Chelsea and City.

What Liverpool really need is patience. They are a fair way of being a top side, they got really close around 08-09 when IIRC they got Arshavined when they were probably title favourites, and they need to rebuild. Whether or not you think Dalglish is the man to do that is one thing but they shouldn't have even been thinking about Top 4 this season because they aren't good enough. The plan should be Top 4 next season, a good CL run the year after, and then a push at the title, but the fans have got itchy feet because United have 19 titles. Short termism is rarely a successful strategy, we're seeing that at Chelsea as well.

Yeah, makes you wonder what will happen if we get an iffy result in Moldova, just can't see him handling the questioning well.

It's strange that Dalglish has opted to revert to kick-and-rush and packed the side with unsubtle young English players at exactly the moment when highly technical football is starting to dominate. Also, the team can't defend set pieces, which strongly suggests he's not doing his job properly. But I don't think there's much point in sacking him unless someone notably better becomes immediately available.

Henry seems a very cute operator, tbf. He's savvy enough to know he'll need the crowd to turn against their King Kenny before he can consider replacing; for better or worse every Liverpool fan still worships the man.

My guess is Dalglish will just walk of his own volition eventually; it's his usual MO.

Exactly. Unless I'm mistaken Chelsea haven't won back to back titles since the 'special one' was there; they can spend well and buy a trophy but it doesn't sustain success. I mean, AVB made some odd decisions but really a manager there needs to be given time if they want to build a dynasty. Rome wasnt built in a day etc etc etc

Well we all know that fans don't do patience, been so ****ed off at some Brentford fans this year. A minority of them even want Uwe out, just because we get a bit of investment they ignore the clubs in the division with far greater spending power and I think are deeply suspicious of the fact we are actually trying to play football.

Anyway Liverpool, you are right their squad is not good enough but the problem is that for the money they spent it really should be an awful lot better.
