Sets a high bar, does Howzers.

Must admit I haven't seen a ball he bowled yet, but his figures suggest he came back well.
Year, to be fair to him he had a good day at the office after a notably trashy first spell, though he benefited from Pakistan's lower order losing their collective **** towards the end.

Still think he can go do one, personally. We don't need him, and if we keep him around there's a horrible danger he'll stumble into a Test before long.

Yeah, right enough. Had a dire couple of seasons in 09 & 10 (when his pie-related issues were at their worst), but scored over 1000 runs at 47.5 in 2011.

I'm unashamedly a fan. Better technique that Morgan and I think he's got more in the way of arse (metaphorically as well as literally) than Ravi.
Yeah it wouldn't be the worst move, I'd just rather he was picked because he's the best option at 6, not because he offers a useful bowling optoon.
I'm kind of on the fence about him too, though I've warmed to him as a Test option. Definitely agree with Furball that our #6 has to make his place on batting alone, given our bowling is our strong suit, and I don't think Patel's would be likely to make much impact against the Sri Lankan spin aficionados.

Sammy could be there as a bat, he'd be an improvement over Morgan at least, and would manage Colly's old role with the ball better than Trott. So I wouldn't mind seeing him in the lineup as such. I just can't help but be hopeful that a Taylor or a couple of others might be a case of aiming higher.

Always knew Kevin would prove the naysayers wrong.Good stuff from Craig, too.Would hate it if Matt came back into the side.

TBH given that he is a good batsman and that he does offer a bit with the ball, I don't see any reaosn why Patel can't play for the test team, I'm sitll partly bemused as to why he's so down the order but with Kiesy in I suppose 7 is his slot for now.

For what its worth I'm still not sold on Bopara, decent scores or not he just seems to struggle too often and too frequently.

His bowling is his redeeming feature but if we can get that with someone who's bowling is substantially better for what may well be the same level of bat skill I don't see why not.

Also I think its worth pointing out how much fitter Patel actually is than he looks and its been coming on at a fair rate too so if I'm honestly asked who I'd rather have at 6 and we're gonna play a 4 man attack, I'd say Patel.

what a crap performance

England have had their revenge for the test series

From whatever little I saw, never did once during the ODI series did Pakistan seem like winning a match

News surfacing that Misbah will get the axe from ODIs.and Afridi will resume captaincy for the Asia Cup.

Great if that happens.Misbah and Younis need to be dropped from the ODI side.

Well that was ridiculously easy even with a scratch side. Don't know what to make of this tour, putting it down as a blip on both test and odi fronts at opposite ends of the scale.

Stupid move by Pakistan to have their Test team play ODI's. What was the point of having Abdul Rahman in the team when they have never played him for ODI's before. The team was already loaded with spinners.

Rehman certainly wasn't the reason you lost though; 10 overs 1/31 is a better return than Gul or Cheema would've produced almost certainly IMO and he bowled largely at the times they would've bowled too. I thought Pakistan's bowling - even on the selection front - was fine in the fourth ODI; it was the batting that let them down.

Is there a word for blaming an unconventional tactic for a failure despite what actually happened, merely because it's easy to mount a 'logical' case against without having to analyse the event? There should be as it happens all the time in cricket journalism and forum posting; maybe we should call it Qadiring.

Anyway, thoughts on the T20 squad:

Open with KP & Cook. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Briggs can stay on the sidelines for at least the first game. Buttler on the other hand has to get some time in an England shirt. Don't want him keeping, though, you want him in the field.

Bat Patel up the order. No need to watch Keiswetter try to adapt to lower-middle order stuff while there's an evidently better bat sitting with his pads on. Keeps Buttler in position too.

Still don't fancy CK but even I can't really claim Bluey as clearly the better T20 bat right now. Whichever of them they feel like, really.

On Dernbach, this is the arena he's supposed to be impressing us in, so we really should give him a go here if he's on tour. I'd also be much more comfortable giving him 4 overs than 10. That said, it's just more appealing to me to say he can go do one.

Jimmy can put his feet up.

XI

Cook
KP
Hales
Morgan
Patel
Buttler
CK/Bairstow
Bresnan
Swann
Broad
Finn

4 spinners is overkill, no matter what the pitch conditions and/or opponents.
Agreed. Needed attacking bowlers like Wahab to get the wickets. He may be wayward but he gets the wickets and had a bad game. Abdul Rahman's figures show that he just keeps things tight. He's not a wicket taker in ODI's.

Our batting will always be rubbish, because of the pitches we play on back home, and this won't change. It's our bowling that has always bailed us out.

But Abdul Rahman was just an example. Younis is another test player being played in the ODI squad. He has never been an ODI player and shouldn't be in the team.

Yes pretty much what I'd go with. It's not a forgone conclusion where Flower will go with the make up of the side, will he keep Hales and CK opening or go with the successful opening partnership from the 50 over game, if he goes with the former, Cook won't fit in the side, so I fancy the change you've said above. Buttler is a must for the next 3 games and at some point you would think he'd want another look at Bairstow.
The bowling sort of picks itself, with Finn, Broad, Bresnan and Swann inked in but at some point he'd want to have another look at Briggs.

looking forward to Hales being epically outdone by Ajmal if he makes it that far, although I guess he's probably only 50/50 to play.

No idea who is going to win this given the unpredictability of the two series so far.
