Yeah, worries me tho as he tries to cut balls that are sometimes a bit close to the stumps, but it is his "go to" shot.

Not endorsing an ODI recall for Matty tho, I hasten to add. Been there, got the teeshirt.
As dire an ODI player as Prior's been, Kieswetter really isn't any better, is a markedly inferior gloveman and has been shunted down to number 6. Prior for Kieswetter gets us a much better gloveman and really doesn't affect the batting that much.

India in 08 the only team I can recall nearing us in both legs of a tour, in recent memory
Yeah, we went through a strange period under Peter Moores where we'd win a Test series then lose an ODI series, or vice versa.

In fact, the India 2008 tour aside, I can't actually remember the last time where we lost both legs of a tour. Possibly Pakistan 2005?

Anyone got an answer for this or will I have to look it up myself tomorrow?
Bopara has a T20 ton, and his T20I record shows just how little that particular stat counts for. Luke Wright has two. There are far, far better ways to measure the quality of a T20 batsman or in fact any player in any sporting role than what his best ever performance was.

Cannot imagine Cook will blossom into as impressive a T20 batsman as he has in the other formats. Though with his flexibility and determination you could never bet against it, but I wouldn't want him dabbling too much in this format.

Well yeah, but Cook for the moment has been pigeon-holed as "not a T20 player." Just as he was pigeon-holed not that long ago as "Tests only, can't play any of that pyjama stuff" despite having an aptitude for it, and having a pretty solid domestic record in both List A and Twenty20 stuff. His best ever performance on its own proves nothing, but pigeon-holing someone as not being a T20 player despite managing an achievement in the format that more "proven" T20 players like Pietersen and Kieswetter haven't managed might just be a mistake.

If he'd notched up a ton and, aside from that, averaged 15 at a strike rate of 95, he'd be rightfully pigeon-holed. Equally, if he'd hit two fifties instead of a ton and a duck I'd rate him the same as I do now. So basically I don't care about one innings at all. :p

Just seemed like one of those obscure stats you like to grab hold of and keep repeating despite the fact that it doesn't actually support your point (which in this case, I actually agree with anyway) much, so I thought I'd nip it in the bud before I had to see it posted another 20 times.

KP hasn't played much domestic T20 cricket in the last few years tbf but on the Cook thing, yes he wouldn't be the worst choice in the world at all and from watching him the 50 over stuff, you could see him being fairly successful. Knowing him he'd prove everyone wrong and be very good.

Kieswetter being over-rated doesn't mean Prior should be recalled though; Buttler and Davies exist.

You're the one who started this stupid line of discussion; Brumby asked if Cook should be considered for the T20 side and I asked if anyone else in the England set up had scored a ton at T20 level purely out of interest.

As an England fan, would you really want Cook playing T20s though?

I mean, I have no doubt he could have some success in the format, but overall it would just equal a greater workload which might lead to injury - plus there's always the danger that the lack of discipline required in T20s could carry over somewhat to tests and odis.

Overall I'd say the possible problems outweigh the possible benefits when it comes to Cook playing T20.

Long-term, you want one skipper, and Cooky fits the bill there.

Also, if anyone has the mental fortitude to combine the games and keep his thought processes clear enough to bat properly in Test cricket, then that's our Alastair.

It will also help him become the first player to make 100 International hundreds.

I'm not convinced international T20 should be taken that seriously tbh.

If Cook wants to play it I'd have no objections, if he doesn't then fine.

I'm not sure it's necessary to have one skipper looking after all three teams. I can understand in the past that they would like one skipper to be in charge of the Tests and ODI's, but now T20 cricket is here I would look at a completely different option for this format.

I think Cook is really unsuited to T20 cricket and I'm all for the likes of Buttler and Bairstow and the likes all getting a go in this team and giving some of the more seasoned pro's a break while these games/competitions play out.

The problem with that is (so far), Buttler and Bairstow aren't that good at 20/20. Personally hope we don't fall into the same selection problems as we have had in ODIs, in 20/20, that we pick people just because they're promising, or they "should" be good at the format.

Treat each form, even if it's a **** one, live 50-over, with utter professionalism, it's the only way to go.

Buttler averages 23 and strikes at 140 in T20; that's not crap. Could work on the average a little but but it's certainly not awful.

yeah, well lucky I didn't say crap then. Buttler should obviously play all forms for England anyway.

My point being IF KP Cook or whomever from the current ODI/Test set-up are better at 20/20 than the youngsters they should play, and not be rested. Particularly not molly-coddled batsmen. It's not like we play that many.
