How on earth are we gonna develop a decent side if we keep dropping guys without giving them a long rope, Warner's talent is for all to see and you gotta give him time to develop, good young players just don't pop from nowhere like wild mushrooms one has to be patient with them something we just haven't done. Also everyone questioing Bailey's credentials tend to be forgetting that Forrest has done absolutely little in his domestic career apart from scoring a few runs for the Bulls this season and that too in FC cricket, his OD average this season is 21.
Is this the most ironic and contradictory post of all time?

I for one think Forrest's talent was there for all to see during his 66 on debut and perhaps we should give him a long rope..........But yeah, you've sorta gone from defending Warner because he has a lot of talent despite his bad record, to deriding Forrest for his bad record, despite the 66 clearly seeing he has some pretty good things about him.

Bailey and Forrest are actually both fairly lousy options for the upcoming game. But one of them happened to make 66 in the previous ODI game so I dunno know it seems a no-brainer to pick that one. So no Bailey unless you drop/rest someone else. Just admit it please.

As for Warner. Yeah he has a lot of talent. He also has a lot of failures in OD cricket and very few success stories. Even Hughes and Usman have better OD records than him! One of those success stories was an 165 odd scored on a midget grade ground, and another one was in that Aus A/SA A/Zim A tri series when in the 5 or games before the ton he failed every time...and Hughes happened to make 140 in the game too

He might not always be a terrible OD player. But you know, some people never adjust to the OD game. Unlike in T20 Warner can't go for it pretty much every ball. And unlike in FC Warner can't wait and wait until he gets a ball he likes to smash. He has to turn the strike over. And despite being super dooper quick, he's hardly excellent at that. And it just seems he's probably more likely to improve that by playing in domestic cricket, possibly in the middler order, instead of for Australia, opening....

I mean, me, PEWS and a few of the other NSW fans have sorta been begging for warner to be tried down the order for NSW because he keeps on failing for us up the order, so that's probably why I'm being really harsh towards Warner right now. I just don't see any improvement in his OD game. Although at least he played a good knock for NSW once this season.

Anyway, the whole captaincy thing reminds of the season Matty Lloyd took over as captain of Essendon because James Hird didn't want to do it anymore, and then Lloyd did his hamstring and was out for the season, and because Dustin Fletcher didn't really want to do it we had to go back to Hird for the next game while we came up with a solution.

So thank god Clarke should only be missing 1-2 games is really what I'm trying to say.

To be honest, reckon Haddin will return to the squad as skipper with Wade playing a specialist bat.

Dont see one good reason why MHussey shouldnt be the captain? Unless CA is already looking to groom a successor to Clarke which is unlikely.

Crazy Sam

International 12th Man
I feel Forrest's role is very similar to Clarke's in ODI's - he's not going to have a strike rate above 85 very often and is more likely to nudge the ball around. So it's possibly a good thing to have Forrest in the side for Friday with Clarke missing. It felt unbalanced with both of them in there on Sunday though.

State Captain
Warner seems to be improving so I'd stick with him for the time being. Clarke injury is perfect timing as it means Forrest gets another chance and we also don't need to shuffle our order to have him in the side.

Captaincy wise the selectors do seem to be grooming Warner as one so a one off match means there is no added pressure of him being fulltime captain which would have happened in the T20.

Look at those scorecards again - Peter Fulton played a match winning knock. There's only one believable reason for that

malcolmconn #cricket ponting to captain aust fri night v SL SCG in place of inj clarke. Squad announced early arvo.

Thank God for that, couldn't take another random captaincy choice.

I'm pretty sure he was just saying that they still chose an XI which they thought could win, not that Sachin "no longer delivered", which is a very different thing.

I'd read his comments before that Herald Sun article and I didn't interpret him to mean that at all.
