It has to be a shock for Vitori, getting a couple of five-fors in his first few matches, then getting hammered like this.

Stupid Sky left Kane Williamson off their fastest 100s list.

They obviously use Cricinfo, because his name is missing from their list as well. Stupid Cricinfo.

Hmmmmm...Selecting NZ's top ODI XI assuming everyone's fit & available will be an interesting proposition now.

Are Ireland ready to play two T20Is at super short notice?

To be fair, I remember junior cricket camps a bit like this. Team out of the reckoning and getting rattier by the hour in the Hawke's bay heat, even the Dads stuffing up and getting us lost on the way to the ground, rubbish 'mumble mumble who f****** cares mumble...' throws from the outfield, etc.

Guptill
Nicol
Ryder*
Taylor
McCullum
Williamson
Oram
NcCullum
Bracewell
Mills
4th seamer

Assumption of Ryder being fit = lost the weight, and can get thru some matches without injury

Something like this i'd say:

1.Guptill
2.Nicol
3.McCullum
4.Taylor
5.Ryder
6.Williamson
7.Oram
8.N McCullum
9.Mills
10.Bracewell
11.Southee

There's a few games Ryder will probably be required to get through before that happens.

Plunket Shield:

Canterbury v Wellington
Fri Feb 17 - Mon Feb 20
10:30 local | 21:30 GMT
Mainpower Oval, Rangiora

Auckland v Wellington
Fri Feb 24 - Mon Feb 27
10:30 local | 21:30 GMT
Colin Maiden Park, Auckland

South Africa ODIs are on the 25th, 29th, 3rd March

Is Ryder cunning and mentally agile enough to flourish at 5 in one-dayers against good opposition? Not for me, prefer him with a blank canvas to match his...blank canvas.

Yeah the selectors will have a bloody tough job. Personally, as much as I'm a huge fan of Williamson, I don't think we need both him and Nicol in the team as their bowling is pretty similar. Therefore, my side would be:

1. Guptill
2. Nicol
3. Ryder
4. Taylor
5. McCullum
6. Latham
7. NcCullum
8. Oram
9. Bracewell
10. Mills
11. Southee

Having a few lefties in the lineup will be important against SA I reckon, especially when their 2 spinners are likely to be Peterson and Tahir.

Problem I see with our ODI side at the moment is that Ryder, Taylor and Williamson are all a wee bit average at picking up lots of singles through the middle overs, so we tend to get bogged down. Could try a busier player like McCullum at say 5, though in general he is not as good a batsman as the above.

Other than that I quite like the look of this side, tho will be interested in how Nicol in particular goes vs better teams.

If he was fit enough to properly run quick singles then I'd quite like him at 5, as he has the touch to work the ball into gaps. But yeah... Jesse running quick singles..... Hrmmm.
