No; Pothas's point was that Scaly really, really dislikes Panesar and used to whinge about him constantly when he was in the side as a regular.
Wrong :p

See the part in bold below

Or in other words what Scaly described was pretty close to what the conditions would be like. I did want 3 spinners touring, albeit one was Borthwick for the situation where England were trying to force a win and wanted to go in with 5 bowlers. Pakistan have never played that well against Panesar and I always thought he'd take wickets against them.

If Panesar is only going to bowl a few overs then there's no point picking him, because the rest of his game is complete crap. He has to be a big factor with the ball to play and make up for the rest of his skills. These occasions now we have Swann are quite rare.

It also amazes me how much people over-estimate the odds of a draw, and this series was even more silly. The pitches in UAE always offer something - it's just a bit turgid at times. Turgid is not necessarily the same as a draw. You will get results most of the time, particularly with these two sides.

No you still don't understand you?

We are not saying that Scaly was wrong, that looks a pretty damn perceptive argument in hindsight but we were amazed because untill that point he ad shown nothing but scorn for 'Donkey' as he so lovingly calls him.

Come on It is not that difficult.

Yes because what Scaly said clearly proves I was wrong about what Pothas meant...

I can't believe you're struggling to grasp what I'm saying here, ffs.

Pothas wasn't surprised that people were advocating two spinners, or even that Scaly was - he was surprised that Scaly was advocating Panesar because he traditionally hates Panesar.

Been mulling over what England may do for this final Test. I think Bopara in for Morgan is a certainty to happen, unless the fitness of Bell is in real question. I think that is the only change England will make, but they may toy with the idea of using Steve Davies behind the stumps and Matt Prior as a specialist bat. Again if Bell is struggling this could happen, but I don't see them leaving out Bell or KP just for this last Test on form, despite them clearly struggling.

I would certainly keep Bell in myself for what it's worth.

Would be playing Davies as a specialist bat if both were in the team, myself.

Jamie Foster is about the only keeper I rate higher with the gloves than Matty just now.

Yes no doubt Prior's keeping these days is of a very high standard. I wouldn't give Davies the gloves because I think he's a better keeper, just give him some experience behind the stumps in Test cricket in these conditions. Think Prior justifies the tag of a specialist batsman much more than Davies also, and could shunt Prior up the order.

Nowadays, almost all sides are good at home and poor away, difficult to say if a particular side is good or not overall vis-a-vis another team.
The rankings almost depend on the scheduling atm.
Except SA.. haven't lost a series away since Sri Lanka 2006.. and only lost the 1 at home in that time (and drawn a fair few)

Edit: Ok banging on that drum again... can't wait till SA v Eng :p
