Don't know what Hopkins was playing tbh. Looked an atrocious shot regardless of the ball.

Plus, if he was standing up and not a midget, that wouldn't have been a no ball.
Agree it wouldn't have been a beamer if Hopkins was standing in his normal stance, but was still a waist high no-ball

Cantabs have given up and are playing for respectability. In a minute they will try to hit a couple of sixes to pretend they were trying.

Respectable score from Cantabs will finish up with 150-160.

Would have been a better final if they had actually tried to win even if it meant getting bowled out for 90.

The reason for the loss is broadly on Nicol's shoulders. Leaving the first ball of the inning to go through to the keeper unmolested and then only getting 3 off the over when chasing 200.

Got pretty frustrating between the 7th-12th over watching Cantabs bat at 6 an over as they looked to "consolidate" in a fricking 20 20 game.

Andrew Ellis the only batsman to emerge with any credit.

Aces just looked a class above today. Adams/Bates/Hira bowled really well and stopped any chance of the Wizards chasing that total. Hopefully they can go and actually win a single game in the Champions League.

You don't lose (or win) a game in the first over of a run chase, and even less so on the first ball. Canterbury needed at least one top order batsman to get in and bat for a dozen overs or so a la Guptill while other batsmen could tee off at the other end. The problem was they all tried to slog straight away after a dot ball or two - see Brownlie's wicket as an example; Guptill on the other hand only had about 3 boundaries by the time he was on 40ish.

I wouldn't say they consolidated either; Fulton was trying to hit everything but couldn't middle it. Auckland generally bowled very well too.

@Meridio usually you don't lose it in the first over. In this case they did. By the time Bates was bowling the 2nd over Nicol was already feeling the run rate pinch and decided he had to chance his arm in an ambitious shot and got out. Even if they had scored 6 runs off the first over they could have been more relaxed in the 2nd over. they were never going to chase that total without Nicol getting at least a 40.

Not really. Auckland had a great plan to him and it worked. He's a predominantly leg-side player and that's where he hurt them on Tuesday. So they bowled wide of off-stump and forced him to go that side. He couldn't get going, so with scoreboard pressure tried to go leg side and chopped on. It was very good planning and very good bowling.

Auckland were the best side by miles in the competition and deservedly won.

As for Munro..he was demoted because he's not in great hitting form. No indictment on him, just he'd been coming in with 8-10 balls to go in every innings because the top order was going so well and struggled to get going. Hira was in better form so went up, and I guess Adams may have even slid up ahead of him as well.
