Harmison Admits He May Have Had Depression

Garson007

The most depressed I've been about sport was when Italy won the football world cup in 2006. I felt sick to my stomach for about a week. Pretty much then that I've refused to support that sport too much until they fix it from cheating.

I do have a generalisation conjecture as to why English cricketers are more prone to depression. Well, there is that sunlight thing that's a common theme with European depression when travelling to countries with a lot of sun Seasonal affective disorder - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Then of course, it's the fact that most of these cricketers come from snobby private schools, so few of them encounter hardship. In a world where you get everything it's especially hard to motive yourself to do anything, which leads to depression.

Surely you're not actually equating this experience of yours with genuine depression? Similarly, I'd love to hear the evidence on which you base your claim that the match was rigged.

I'm not saying the match was rigged. Cheating != match-fixing. For a depressing team like Italy to luck a world cup was just too much.

Also, no, I'm not equating it to actual depression. I wasn't being particularly serious.

Haha sorry, misunderstanding on my part.

Maintain to this day that they were the best "team" in the competition. Were well aware of the limits of their abilities collectively, and played to their strengths. Can't begrudge them their achievement imo.

I reckon that tournament was Argentina's to lose, which they did when the manager **** himself and took Riquelme off against Germany.

Hahaha, I remember I hardly saw any of that game, turned the TV on and saw it had reached penalties, pretty obvious who was going to win from therein. The fracas that followed was amusing mind you.

Put in a defensive team and left Messi high and dry on the bench iirc. They beat some team 6-1 and looked fabulous doing it a game or two before that.

Er no. Harmison, Flintoff, Thorpe, Trescothick, Yardy, Hoggard are the English names mentioned so far in this thread. I'm pretty sure that without exception they all went to State schools.

Haha, in any case, the suggestion that someone who was publicly schooled is more likely to suffer from depression is pretty spurious to say the least.

I particularly liked the suggestion that everything is provided on a plate for all children who've been to a private school.

Really sad to hear about this. Depression is such a horrible illness, eating away at you day in day out. To suffer from it and play at the highest level is something to admire.
