Shorter run up, more shoulder, bowling a lot of cross seam, use of the crease - couldnt all have been done in the few days leading up to a test so huge credit to Hilf and guys in TassieThat really was a great ball. It's the sort of ball we often used to see Hilfhenhaus try to bowl in the first 4 overs of an innings - but on this occasion it actually swung and didn't end up on the square leg fence. Best of all is that those failed hero ball attempts usually prompted him to bowl short outside off for the rest of the innings.
I backed Hilf's selection going into this series but it was more in a "he wasn't that bad; still better than Starc at least" kind of way than a "he's actually improved quite a bit" way, even though I was kinda impressed with one awesome BBL spell he bowled. His Shield bowling this season hadn't really looked anything like this - just a little quicker than his Ashes bowling with no real other change, tbh - big ups to McDermott if he got him bowling like this in a week or so leading in the first Test.
