England should lose their number 1 status for this...and for no logical reason whatsoever Australia should take it.
To be honest you are probably the most likely candidates to take it from us given time. India are going backwards and SA just seem to lack that killer instinct to make the leap forward. The rest are way back but Pakistan look the best of them, guess we find out where they are over the next month.

The Aus bowling certainly seems to be on the up. The batting may take a while to rebuild, especially once Ponting & Hussey call it a day.

Will depend what we do in the UAE and Sri Lanka, and on the margin of the series result...

Na I reckon SA's bowling attack is just too damn good now for any overall team incoherence to get in the way of success. I think it will only be a matter of time before SA become no. 1 tbh. Australia lack the batting prowess at this stage, and we probably won't get to no.1 for a long time yet.
