Not a bad total at all and it gives them a good chance but I reckon 400 would be about par, no maybe it's not too far off thinking about it, looks a good pitch for batting to me.
If Australia bowls full they'll cause problems. There's enough in the pitch to encourage the bowlers.

Will be interesting to see what sort of effect McDermott is having in the camp. Read an article on cricinfo a month or so ago and apparently he's been mucking around with pitch maps in an attempt to encourage his bowlers to bowl fuller - so that while on TV it might show that a bowler has landed X amount of deliveries in a "good" area, when they're analysing it in training the same deliveries will show up as being "short."

I look at this and think what Johnson could have been with the bat had he dialed it in a bit instead of always batting the same way.
Think MJ was a bit more manufactured than Pattinson, had very limited footwork range which allowed him to swing through the line of the ball, but it was never really "tight". What it did allow him to do what others, including Patto, couldn't do as well, and that's take bowlers downtown when he's with 10 and 11.
