Interesting article in today's Guardian about the former Reading captain John Mackie, who was found guilty of racially abusing Carl Asaba back in 2002 in a game versus Sheffield Utd.

To his credit (& unlike Suarez & Terry) he never denied the abuse and apologised to Asaba.

Must admit I didn't recall the case, perhaps our resident Royals expert could share his memories?

Hmmm. Dunno. He seems rather preoccupied with ranting about Sarcozy in the politics thread. Maybe that will satisfy his quota for voicing his opinion on various French gentlemen for a while.
Sarkozy probably better in the air than Henry TBF.

Gosh what a ****e saturday this is, I almost considered watching the SPL, but decided nothing is that desperate.

'tis true that Mackie got very little stick from the Reading fans - hardly surprising really as he was one of those players who had limited talent but was obviously doing his best at all times, and of course you had to respect him for taking it on the chin - it probably did him no harm either that (and this never gets mentioned) a few years before the club had paid a lot of money for Asaba who'd proved to be a big disappointment so there was no love lost there

Wenger - I’ll take time over Henry decision | News Archive | News | Arsenal.com

Yes Arsene! Sign him up! Can't be any worse than Chamakh and Arshavin!
While I agree he's not likely to be worse... I'm not sure how much of an improvement he would be. Is likely to be 70k a week for 5/6 weeks. Would much rather we went about sorting a long term and actually signing a bloody good striker. Would be good for a number of reasons.
Obviously, improving the squad being the main one but let's not forget that RVP has a year left on his contract this summer and if he doesn't see some real desire or ambition then there's every chance he could be off.

I agree entirely really. You're not wrong at all. But the romantic in me would really like to see this happen. Who knows, the kind of passion and commitment he would bring to the team could maybe provide a huge lift. If players like Arshavin had the attitude of Henry then the team wouldn't be in such desperate need for new faces.

****ing Arshavin though, hope he's offloaded soon.

I personally think it makes sense. The Arse are going to be missing Gervinho and Chamakh for most of January beacuase of the African Nations dealy.

Henry a handy option, even at 34 or whatever he is now.

Thierry Henry would still be the second best player at Arsenal if he were to sign/go on loan with them.

When did Spurs become a game behind everyone else and when are they going to make that up?

If Liverpool can't beat ****ing Blackburn at home tonight after 1001 shots on goal then I will jump off a tall building.

For the entire season. The opening match of the season against Everton was postponed due to the London riots, which probably cost Spurs goal difference in the big losses against the Manchester teams.

We play Everton on January 11.

So...instead of showing any of the games that might be somewhat interesting today. Sky opt to broadcast Stoke v Aston Villa. No ****ing thanks. Can hardly think of any two teams I would least like to watch.

Now that I've said that it'll probably end up 5-5 or something stupid. But bleurgh, always look forward to the boxing day games, is a nice point of the holiday, but not up for watching that at all. Will take a nap in a few hours and stay up and watch Aus v Ind.

Chelsea are so casual in defence, I get the impression a lot of their players don't really give a **** anymore.

Can see us dropping points today, we've put out a very weak team and Wigan are playing well, even away from home.
