Feel sorry for Chesney, he's been really good today, as he so often is.

Can't say the same for Walcott though, his removal is long overdue, just a shame it's Arshavin who's replaced him. I'd have been tempted to go with Benayoun. I assume Wenger is hoping for him to do his 5 times a year trick of scoring a great goal from out of nowhere before becoming knackered after 15 minutes.

Well done City, a deserved result I think it's fair to say. Not like Arsenal played badly by any means, but I think the results serves as a timely reminder, that when faced with a really competent defence Arsenal's reliance on Van Persie is really exposed.

Just found this on the BBC website:

I knew he'd been crap, but even I didn't realise he had been that poor.
He hasn't been brilliant but the above stat hides that he's hit the post a few times and some glorious chances have been missed from his delivery. Still an underwhelming first half of the season for Downing.

17 posts so far this season. Incredible. When it clicks one team is going to get the thrashing of the season against us. On the other side of the pitch we have the best defence in the league so far.

Leandro Damiao and Neymar to appear in January

Edit: What a thought. Team would be right up there with the best at full strength.

Also, it's about time Park Chu-Young was given a go ffs. Don't think he's made a single premiership appearance. Has looked good in the Carling Cup and Champions League, and it's not like he can do any worse than Arshavin or Chamakh.

RE sledger's stat, what's classed as an assist for these things? Downing's corner pretty key to the first goal today but not quite the direct assist so I'd guess he's still waiting to breach that stat.

I believe the last pass or touch of the ball that cannot be considered an outright deflection prior to ball ending up in the net is what counts as the assist.

As such, a shot that was going wide which is deflected into the path of a striker who then boots it in will count as an assist. Similarly, if a goal is scored direct from a free-kick or a penalty, the player who was fouled to win said free-kick or penalty will be credited with the assist.

Downing's cross would count as a "key pass" in terms of how these stats are counted, as I understand it anyway.

Spot on. Worth keeping in mind there's a lot more to football than stats though, obvs.

How does one actually pick up an injury like that? Did the ball hit him there or something? I'm not sure what kind of ungentlemanly position he must have adopted to end up with such an injury otherwise.

Oh yeah of course. You would usually expect to see a player of his sort with a fair few scores in each column at this time of the year though.

One of our better performances this season, although obviously it helps when you're playing a team with no defence. It's good to get some contribution from our prank-players, Carrick and Evans had a really good game.
TBF though, Carrick's not had a bad game this season at all. Was missing defensively against Basel at Old Trafford but apart from that, none.

Robbie Savage on Steve Kean/Blackburn:
Get rid of the [Blackburn] manager, simple as that. Win, lose or draw, get rid of him. The fans aren't enjoying watching them, it is a bad atmosphere around the club. It is not the same club. The guy is inexperienced at that level and Blackburn are rubbish.
Haha, big game tonight, I will be watching on with interest.
