Steyn likes batting; he actually wants to bat higher and it was only last month he saved South Africa from losing by an innings at Cape Town.
Haha, intersesting. Wouldn't have thought that from watching him bat.

Good to see Perera get the new ball ahead of that useless **** Fernando.

Shaminda Eranga would have been a handful on this deck. It's a shame that he's injured. Was impressive in his first test against Aus. Yet another young bowler with good basics who could well be embarrassing senior colleagues in a few months!

I'd have personally started with Fernando instead of Perera, don't rate either really but with Fernando if he does get it right he can take wickets and he's got some pace about him.

Welegedra has got to start making Smith play, especially early on while the ball is new.

Never a good sign for the bowler when the fourth over of the innings is five easy leaves.

Short-pitched nonesense! Why would you do that when the track is so conducive to seam bowling?

EDIT: Is it just me or is Wela actually bowling a yard or two faster?

Smith looks ominous. All too easy for him, bread and butter onside runs and enough width to cash in. Rudolph looks to be struggling however.

Yes, it was just for the last half of that over he went from 135 to 140 and lost line and got hit .

You can tell the guy bowling averages 90 in test cricket and 38 with the ball in FC cricket. He hasn't bowled at the stumps yet, just wide nonsense. Tough times for Sri Lanka.

IIRC, when he was bowling around the mid 120s, he was quite effective with the new ball against the southpaws. Strauss, Taufeeq, Khwaja, Marsh and a few others in the recent past have had a few problems against him.

Shouldn't be long until Herath books himself an end. Not a greentop when these guys are bowling.
