I don't really get Chappell's rationale that Ponting shouldn't be dropped at the moment because of our other batting woes. That would be true if Ponting was somehow really providing stability to the side, but he isn't. He is half of the problem. Experience counts for nothing unless you make runs. Honestly the question of if we should replace Ponting with someone else, could be reframed as, can someone else replace him who will average more than 30-35? Because that's been his value as a batsmen over the past 2 years at least. Our batting depth is truly in strife if we can't find someone to do that.
