So the Mavs already losing Tyson Chandler.
They are losing Chandler, Barea, and Butler. Chandler was the key missing piece of the puzzle that helped them win the Championship. They are basically giving up on this coming season and saving cap room for the 2012 free agency class. Except none of the big names of that class have given any indication that they want to come to Dallas. On the contrary, they have all named their desired locations and unless you are LA, NY, or Boston, you are **** out of luck.

I don't get it. Why give up on a good thing now for a long shot later? If they had brought back Chandler and Barea, the Mavs would be considered amongst the favorites to win it all. Without them, they will barely be expected to clear the first round of the playoffs. Me sad and perplexed.

wtf David Stern!?
Ind33d.

It was actually a good deal for the Hornets. Martin+Scola+Odom+Dragic+1stRounder is waaaaaaaaay better than NOTHING, which is what they will get for CP3 next year.

Absolutely ridiculous. It seems like a good trade for everybody, the Lakers probably come off worst.

The Hornets trade was meh unless they are planning to remain a 7-10 seed in the West with no room for improvement any time soon. Denver and Utah got way better deals for their star players last year. That said, no chance Stern should've nixed it. Not a great deal at all for any of the teams to be honest.

Chandler isn't worth anywhere near that kind of money either. Sunk cost for NY, now their back court is dire too.

Oh and news just in is that LA have pulled out of the Chris Paul trade. Gonna get themselves some Dwight and Hedo now.

Looks like LA has pulled out of the CP3 trade and has shipped of Odom to Dallas instead. Great addition for the Mavs IMO.

not like chandler's defensive presence is going to make new york a contender as well...he is essentially an injury-prone, on-the-wrong-side-of-30 player who had probably the best year of his career last year...i remember denver had this tremendous offensive team just a coupla years back with marcus camby being the only one who played any kind of defense...camby was the nba defensive player of the year but denver as a team was still poor on defense...looks like you guys are going to get odom though without giving up a whole lot in return...

for me even though chandler had the most impact during your championship run, barea is the bigger loss going forward...

if they give up both gasol and bynum, howard or no howard, their front court is going to be significantly weaker...and as for the turkish jordan...:disgust:

Oh I definitely think NY overpaid for him. In fact, I can understand Mark Cuban's justification in not paying him that much. However, he was a perfect fit in Dallas. We've never had a big man that played D like him and he finally brought us a presence that could get us some defensive stops. I just think your window of opportunity to win in this league is very small, specially considering the "mega" alliances that players have these days like the Heat and Knicks. Considering that, I think the Mavs should've gone all in and brought back the team that won them the championship, even if it meant overpaying.

I am pleased with the Odom trade for sure. Dallas basically only gave up their first rounder in 2012, which they didn't want anyway because they want that cap room to go after the big free agents.

i agree with you...was just criticizing the ny part of the deal...they are seriously overestimating his impact in the big apple...

Odom now in so it won't be such a heavy crash landing for the Mavs. I'm actually a Celtics fan and I'm not sold that the trades we've done are enough to overhaul Miami.

I think the Hornets came out great in the deal. Certainly a better package then they had in the Lakers deal.
