same reason we picked maddinson instead of patterson. we seem to be refusing to bat Katich anywhere but at 4. See when henry and cruickshank debuted and katich came in at 4. soooo annoying.

Henry and Cruickshank are at least natural top order batsmen though, so I could understand that a bit. Smith at 5 or 6 should be a genuine strength of the team and we've turned it into a weakness by batting him at 3 and making him bowl heaps of overs irrespective of how he's landing them.

Beer definitely the worst of the lot IMO. The Doherty experiment was at least based on some reasoning (KP getting out to left armers). When the Doherty experiment failed it should have been back to Hauritz, who blew everyone away with his domestic performance with bat and ball last year.

In other news, the Rimmington and Magoffin swap seems to have paid off somewhat for both sides hasn't it?
