Nath's right. Liverpool look a top four side when they play 4-5-1 with some combination of Suarez-Kuyt-Bellamy-Maxi-Downing up top and out wide, but they look awful and disjointed playing 4-4-2. Daliglish must be so desperate to prove he wasn't wrong to spend those millions on Carroll, but when he could've had most of the strikers in Europe for the same price it's looking a losing battle.

Shame really, I think Liverpool could finish fourth if they stuck with 4-5-1 and used their pace and technical ability.
AWTSmitten.

We were essentially a 4-5-1 tonight.
With all due respect, we were not. Suarez was a little wider than usual, but it still ended up being flat, with little-to-no link up between the midfield and forward line.

Considering the system, I'm not that surprised or even disappointed with the result. You make your own luck, and we're not doing it with the 4-4-2.

Hopefully though, that's the last we see of trying to fit Carroll/Suarez in together. The only time Carroll should start is if Suarez is injured or rested. End of.

We most definitely were up until the red card. It most definitely wasn't a standard 4-4-2, anyway, considering there was no LM.

If anything it was an irregular 4-1-2-1-2.

Bring back the 5-3-2! :)

Will be interesting to see how Kenny reacts, both in our next month of fixtures and in the window.

Can talk all you want about formations (and I certainly see your point) but I think fundementally that the squad is just not as good as the others in the top 6.

Yes, I think this is the crux of the matter. Team heavily reliant on Suarez. And has Stewart Downing in it. Not a recipe for success.

They've looked really impressive in all of their big games this season but they have major finishing issues and I think they'll miss Lucas really badly. 4-4-2's been failing for them all season but it'll be hard work making the 4-5-1 tick without him, guys like Spearing and Henderson are such a ridiculous step down in quality. It's like losing Xavi Alonso all over again.

BARNES OUT
Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham are much better teams than Liverpool, Chelsea are borderline depending on what they do in January.
City and United definitely.
Arsenal are a maybe for me, but they're a single (likely) injury away from being much worse.
Tottenham are at the moment but (IMO) they can't keep this up.
Chelsea are as long as there are some serious changes in January, but even then they will need time to bed in.

I agree, and yet with the right formation we've been outperforming the bigger sides. It's our biggest problem, much more than the squad, imo.

It's like losing Xavi Alonso all over again.
That hurts. :(

Moussa Dembele's Wiki just got interesting...

It has been alleged that Moussa Dembele is robot sent back from the future to ensure that Fulham do not get relegated in the 2011-12 season. If this happens Danny Murphy leaves to play in the MLS and goes on to develop the computer virus that eventually wins the second pan-galactic war for the humans. It is said that Dembele is an upgrade of "Sonny" from the film I,Robot, the main upgraded features being a more skin-like sheathing. He still retains Sonny's distinctive cumbersome running style. After his challenge against Dembele on the 5th of December 2011 it was claimed that Jay Spearing has been sent back from 2052 to stop Dembele on his mission although this was later found to be untrue.

The fact that he was ever allowed to participate in the running of any football club after Leeds is a bit of a disgrace to be honest.

Hmm seems fair enough to me. If he's staging a buyout or something then obvz it needs blocked but I don't know if we should be telling the owners of clubs who to put in charge.
