***Official*** New Zealand in Australia 2011

Clarke @ 5 watch:

74 innings, 3837 runs, 14 hundreds, average of 57.27

If someone had almost 4000 runs in 45-ish Tests we'd be talking about fast-track ATG status.

KEEP HIM THERE

Ross is sticking the boot into Hughes.

Australia's fidgety opening batsman Phillip Hughes may be the best thing going for a battling New Zealand outfit right now. After Chris Martin had Hughes dropped in the slips from a typical edge, then caught in the gully from a flailing cut next ball in the hosts' chase of a mere 19 to wrap up the first Test, the visiting captain Ross Taylor said of the Australia squad for Hobart: "I'd love him to be in the team."

Can't disagree but hey Ross, score some ****ing runs yourself.

Yeah doesn't look like Hughes will be dropped.

Clarke:

"I look forward to a press conference where I don't get asked about Phillip Hughes," Clarke said after Australia's victory. "Once again, not concerning for me. I have confidence that Hughesy will come out in Hobart and perform. He got a hundred not that long ago, 80-odd not that long ago. I've seen Hughesy cut that ball for four a number of times. I'm sure he would be disappointed personally that he hasn't made any runs in this test match, but I'm confident he can put his hand up in Hobart and get a big score for us."

you would have thought taylor would be sticking the boots into himself and the top order...

Hughes won't be dropped because everyone else is injured or **** or in **** form, maybe due to injury

Media sensationalizing tbh. Taylor said they were confident in where to bowl to Hughes.
Media: Would you like Phil Hughes to be in the Australian test team?

Taylor: Yes, I would.

Random CWer: What a stupid thing to say.

"I'd love him to be in the team."

Cricinfo would not put quotation marks around that unless Taylor said it. It may well be out of context, but he said it, otherwise he could take cricinfo to court.

What he should have said

Media: Would you like Phil Hughes to be in the Australian test team?

Taylor: No, I'd rather the Australian team was filled with blind men that are missing a limb or two. This is because I batted poorly today. Man I'm ****.

Couldn't be arsed reading the article. That's why I didn't use quotation marks boi.

I think, in Lyon, we could have unearthed one of our best offies.
I thought Tim May was good, but he was always a fairly defensive bowler, and didn't have the loop that Lyon has. Colin Miller was the best offie we have had for decades, better than Mallett imo. Miller was so unlucky to get discarded when he did, he almost didn't have a SINGLE match where he did badly. I reckon he could've even gotten himself going again to replace Warne in 2006.

Speaking of Ross Taylor... 0/10 for the Kiwi skipper. Whatever happened to the captain leading from the front, or when the chips are down the captain steps up?

He comes to the crease with his team in deep trouble and what does he do? Does he dig in and say "you're never getting my wicket"?
No. No he doesn't. Having just seen Williamson get out trying to drive a ball outside off stump that was swinging away, he does the EXACT SAME THING, first ball. Beyond woeful. Our captain, FFS.

Was going to write an enormous rant about that performance, but will settle with just saying it was an absolute ****ing shambles. Spineless, gormless, gutless, brainless - those are the nicer descriptions I can think of.
