Pretty difficult qu. given so many of the players haven't been trialled in test cricket for long.Combined Australian and NZ XIs with just the guys who are playing?
I honestly have no real idea what the selectors have in mind for the India test. You surely could assume Cummins and Lyon are lock-ins. But that leaves two other quicks, and Harris seems to be out of contention going by the Pat Howard article on cricinfo. Siddle is probably a lock-in, but his position might be slightly on the line if he fails to take any wickets in the second innings. And as you said Pattinson and Starc are probably depending on their second innings performances here. Then there are the two other obvious reserves in Bollinger and Copeland.Pattinson and Starc are fighting to retain their spots. Doubt Siddle is going to get dropped. Will be an interesting day tomorrow.
Overall, though right now, not career. Are we taking about in this match only or best combined team overall ?
Get to the Hobart Test first before worrying about thatPretty difficult qu. given so many of the players haven't been trialled in test cricket for long.

I could see a lot of people not picking Ponting on his form from the last few years.Currently I'd still take Ponting & Hussey over Ryder & Taylor in a Test side, would be surprised if most wouldn't
I may be wrong, but I don't Ponting's average in the last couple of years has been that bad, it's more a lack of hundreds.I could see a lot of people not picking Ponting on his form from the last few years.
I would pick all 4 with Hussey being made to open.Currently I'd still take Ponting & Hussey over Ryder & Taylor in a Test side, would be surprised if most wouldn't
Aye, in a moment of excitement thinking about the India series I forgot there is another match to go in this one!Get to the Hobart Test first before worrying about that
I see so much potential there as well. He is only 21 which is pretty amazing considering how organised his bowling is. Not too different to someone like Siddle already. Siddle is a bit more consistent, but Pattinson looks more dangerous and can get more movement especially with the new ball. Needs to work on consistently bowling a more full length, but if he can master that he should be a real handful.Watching Pattinson for just an over, it's hard to see how he won't end up a ****ing good bowler.
