Australian Domestic Season 2011-12

Redbacks

International Captain
Talk of reforms to the district cricket comp in SA. Halving the number of teams. Lol, maybe in 30 years they will make a change.

one over at the crease and there's already been three 2's. ssrly d. smith is so not suited to the team. everyone else relies on quick running between the wickets!

Spikeh, your hatred of D Smith is so hypocritical. You always have a cry about ****s getting picked in the national team when they've done nothing at state level, so why don't you apply the same at sate level with Smith considering he has dominated grade attacks for years. As a guess I'd say he averages around mid 50's for Wests (and now Sydney). I'm pretty sure if someone was averaging 50 for years in state cricket you'd be screaming your rat face off saying he should get a national spot.

Anyway, I'd like to know what the hell Daniel Smith offers to New South Wales as a specialist batsman in one day cricket. His technique is awful, he's supposed to be a big hitter but always ends up hitting it straight to fielders, he averages just over 21 with the bat after 7 games with no half centuries and no centuries (and he's opened the batting about half the time), he's not a natural ground fielder (he's a wicket keeper..), he's about as mobile and flexible in the field as the Pasha Bulka and he makes Mark Cosgrove look like Ally McBeal.

I really don't *get* his selection. I know Forrest did poorly when he was given a shot in one day cricket but he batted too low for his natural game mostly, and at least he offered something in the field. Even if not him, I'd much rather see David Warner, Ben Rohrer or even someone like O'Brien or O'Keefe in the team (even though we are bowler heavy as it is) because they'd all offer as much as (well... more than, IMO..) Smith as a bat and potentially much, much more in the field.

shut it ****

(proven record of failure for NSW for a long time. See: Lambert. No-one really to compare with from an Aus-state pov because no-one has really killed it at state level, but repeatedly failed to take the step up over a few years. maybe Siddle or MJ? Maybe the Clarke at number 4 thing actually. Basically Smith's failed a lot of the time over many years. Why stick at it? Also why not give him the gloves considering Nev has an even worst record? If he was also keeping more of a defence could be made from him.)

Depends on when SOK comes back.

I'd be pretty cool with just wiping the OD team sheet clean and starting again tbh. Katich is fairly ****ty form there too

1. Jaques/Maddinson
2. ????
3. Smith (if only because he can't slog it)
4. ????
5. ????
6. ????
7. SOK (maybe even higher)

Match winning 180 against Victoria and a great knock in the Champs league. Has been nowhere near our worst.

I don't even particularly like D Smits. But I do respect what he has done in grade where he's been head and shoulders above 90% of players for a number of years. ****s me when ****s use him as a scape goat everytime NSW lose.

It's no surprise to see eyes going to Smith though is it? It's similar to Hughes in the test team. He's scored a century more recently than everyone else bar Clarke in the team, but because of Watson, Ponting and Hussey eyes go to him. it's fair to say in this team Rohrer and Katich will be kept at least for this season, so eyes will go onto the others. Now Smith has a less than stellar record over many seasons, and it's not like he's not been given plenty of chances. So he's in the firing line. You've called me a hypocrite, but then if I didn't ride him hard (lol) surely I would be a hypocrite too, given how I treat Siddle? 27 OD innings, over seasons, and two scores above 50, if I let that go through to the keeper....
