Australian Domestic Season 2011-12

Say they had of dragged Copeland, Warner and Beer back from SA early to play in this game like they're saying they would (if they selected Copes), who will be 12th man for the Australia game and sub field? Genuine question.
local - serious answer. Heck even Langer could white up for a run around the outfield for a session or two. Unless we get rolled for 60 we'll be batting almost certainly by the start of the 5th day at the latest, so even if he had to leave after stumps on day 4 (20th) he'd have enough time to get back. Rushed for sure, but I've no doubt he would rather play than miss out and end up back with NSW simply because the selectors wouldn't give him a chance.

Pretty sure you can't have someone from another country playing for you unless you're England...

What if we make 600 tonight/tomorrow and SA bat the game out for a draw?
Just a scheduling thing.

Thought Maxwell might have been a chance. Copes has to be a shoe in for the 1st test now.
Biggest blunder after Copes I reckon. (and no I don't think it's an indication he's a cert at all).

Even though he's batting 7 for the Vics he's a better bat than Cowan, Bailey or Cooper, and a better 2nd spinner than Smith (actually a better 1st spinner than Beer, but that's another story). He'll get his chance I'd say next year, but we have let a lot current crap wash through the system first.

Getting rolled for 60 and following on more likely.

We had some of the support staff in whites ready to go in SL I believe. I'm sure they could find someone if they wanted to - **** even fly a young guy over for the thrill of a lifetime. If they needed someone to stay it should have been M Beer, not someone who actually could make a serious contribution and improve the side.

Blues need 99 after lunch, Bulls need 3 wickets (and might only be 2 if Dougeh can't bat).

Cooper celebrates his Aust A selection with a well compiled 3. Tas need 7 wickets but rain might save SA.

Dislike the middle order - Cowan, Bailey, Cooper are nuffies really.

Would have preferred guys like Ferguson, Lynn.

Copeland and O'keefe should also be playing.

Not sure the point of picking Bailey and Cowan, and Cooper is in purely on runs in one game. He has just about the worst technique I've seen for a top 6 domestic batsman, all over the shop.

Isn't Cooper, by dint of representing the Netherlands, ineligible to play for Australia for 3-5 years?

Top Cat, my mole in the Adelaide hills, will know the answer.

Associate teams have different rules, he is free to play for Australia. However, if he plays for Aus A he can't play for Netherlands for 4 years.

Thanks, yeah that middle order is a bit of a wasteland, isn't it - part a commentary on the selectors; part a commentary on the state of Aus cricket.

All told, the new panel lack basic cricket smarts.

You can just tell already.
It does look like they're supporting some of the dud decisions of the Hilditch reign of error.

Beer is the most striking of them, and Starc is still to me about No.5 in NSW if he's lucky.

I suppose you can forgive the middle order simply because they don't have much to choose from. If Lynn had even managed a couple of 30's this game he might have got the nod. The best you can say about Cowan and Bailey is that they're consistently ordinary. Bailey's season averages since 04/05 are: 23, 43, 36, 43, 37, 43, 30, Cowan's are similar 22, 30, 18, 22, 50, 34. If these guys ever play test cricket we will officially be NZ. Cooper has been picked on one match and a prayer. The sad thing is that no batsman can really truly say they've been stiffed not getting selected. Peter Nevill and Glenn Maxwell smoke these nuffies from 7.

Pattinson has given the Hilditch cabal hard ons and no doubt he has potential, but he's not really smashing the door down. Not a terrible selection, but seems more a continuation of Hilditch thinking. Hilf is also a relic from a past age. He has started the season well, but the thought of him, Siddle and Johnson as our test attack is just too raw. Butterworth is as good if not better and deserves a go.

Not that inspiring a start to the new era.

Yeah, I find the Beer/O'Keefe thing the worst. To me, it demonstrates that the panel lack an understanding of O’Keefe’s record- that they’re out of touch with the finer details, that perhaps they haven't done their homework. You have to really follow cricket closely to 'get' that O'Keefe is a FC bowler, and that his record is in that form of the game very respectable.

It's hard to get much on the stream, but Boyce is looking a much better bowler than in the past from the little I've seen in this game. Giving it a good rip and troubling the batsmen.

yeah and that's why Copeland stays. However given Beer got to stay back and play one more game in Aus before leaving for SA.......oh well

Dud team, as expected. How many pass the Rohrer test?
