Am I the only one who feels the world's current batch of pace bowler's aren't as bad as they're made out to be? Without the scandal we'd have Anderson, Steyn, Asif, Amir and Zaheer, all pretty awesome bowlers, which isn't too bad considering all the other guys still in the early-mid stages of their career like Morkel, or guys like Broad who (hopefully) have turned for the better.

In fact comparing our current batch to the other eras is a bit like that comparison thread of the '90s XI vs the '00s XI

The fast bowling stocks are fine. Main difference between today and the past is protective equipment.
Agree.

There are a lot of bowlers with high ceilings around atm. Will be interesting to see how well they hone their skills.

Never using the term "high ceiling" again. I mean, how high is "high"? Does it mean "above average height", or merely "not vertically challenged"?

Far too esoteric and meaningless for my liking.

Steyn - Obviously awesome
Anderson - Only been good for the past few years and hasn't had the chance to prove himself in the SC yet.

The cheats are cheats. Don't count

Zaheer needs a wheel barrow full of sticky tape to get on the field.

So that leaves us with one awesome bowler, one very good bowler, one consistently injured very good bowler, a few cheats and a bunch of hopefuls.

Yep, bowling stocks are seriously good right now. We've basically come to a point whereby if a bowler can average under 30 he's considered good. Pathetic

Why don't the cheats count? And the bunch of hopefuls aren't even through their respective careers yet. Bit early to judge. Also in this era where batting is supposedly a lot easier wouldn't averaging <30 be pretty good?

Because they're currently serving 5 year bans and are therefore irrelevant to the discussion?
