Battle of Cricketers II - CW's Favorite Cricketer (now underway)

BoyBrumby

Englishman
The comp is "favorite" (sic) cricketer, tbf, not "best".

Hussey is a genuinely good guy and, AFAIK, has never had any hearing difficulties.

I realise that, but he's a crabby uncharismatic Australian middle order bat whose got serious technical issues through gully.

Where the **** is Sir Viv? :(

People like Mussey because as well as being one of the nicest guys out there he's probably the keenest cricketer I've ever seen. He's a cricket fan who happens to be very good at cricket. So we like him because he's like one of us.

I don't really share these feelings, I seem to find his eagerness comes more from him being anally retentive, but I see why people have him among their favourites.

super off topic GENERAL rant (because i'm now literally sick of people constantly baiting about the same thing).
how many times do people have to tell you guys that it's likely that harbhajan didn't say 'monkey'.

For anyone who knows Harbhajan and his humble beginnings, it seems inconceivable that he would have used the word 'Monkey' when upset. However, given that he is a Punjabi, it is perfectly normal for him, when provoked, to say Teri maa ki, referring to a common Punjabi abuse, which is as much a part of Punjabi lingo as 'Bastards' is Australian. It is possible that Aussies heard Maa ki and believed it was 'Monkey' even though Bhajji didn't really intend it the way Aussies took it.

When the Indians complained about Brad Hogg using 'Bastards' to describe a couple of Indian players, the Australians argued that it is not a racial slur, but almost normal lingo for that part of the world. So, even though it is considered a strong abuse in India, the Aussie's intention was not really to abuse.

@ "genuinely good bloke"
i don't see how hussey is a clearly a nicer bloke than tendulkar... you guys know **** about tendulkar's personality if you think he's not an awesome human being.
despite the fact the guy has all the bloody records and that there are millions of people who workship him, he's always been down to earth. his girly voice even gives it all away... he's shy sort of a guy who tries to stay away from the spotlight.
I've not seen a guy work harder on his game than tendulkar for such a long time. this guy is a cricket addict. every day he has a new agenda regarding his batting 'i am not playing this particular shot well so im going to spend the next two hrs correcting it' 'i need to now work on this, work on that blah blah'
Bottom line is that people are judging him by the actions/behaviour of his ardent fans who endeavour to do their best to tarnish his image.
and now don't say that he doesn't bat at no.3 when required so he's a ****
another bull**** notion.
i've heard LAXMAN complain a few times over the last few years about how he has alot fewer 100s and avgs less because of the no.5/6 position he has had to bat on vast majority of his career. moreover, he has often expressed his desire to bat higher up the order and has always been india's reserve No.3 (he used to open when he first started).
I'm sure tendulkar has his faults too, but he's easily one of the best guys around.

I need to bring in sanga here to illustrate the bias that exists here.
He's so pretentious that struggle to think how people see him as a ****ing awesome bloke on/off the field when it comes to his demeanour pertaining to cricket. at best he's decent. i can recall quite a few incidents involving him. I'll mention all the recent ones relating to india.
- telling randiv to bowl a no-ball to deny sehwag a 100. (not a clean heart)
- made dhoni do the toss in the wc final again after having lost it. (and then won it on the 2nd attempt) (dubious)
-when india toured srilanka last year, he publicly criticized the ranking system, whinged about india No.1 spot, and had a go at indian batsmen. then however he had to eat humble pie later in the series. (shows he's ****y)
given that srilanka are always playing india, it's not surprising that most of Recent ****ups have happened against them.
I don't know how he's often managed to cover things up so quickly.
despite all that I have mentioned, this guy is seen as a better guy than almost all.
/rant over.

Top post.

It really is a shame that some one as down to earth and humble as Sachin gets bashed on and criticized quite a bit. Don't judge the man based on his fans.

And tbh, it's not as if I care, I've never even spoken out on this issue before. I support India as a whole, and never individual players. But it's really something to see Sachin handle the tremendous amount of fame, criticism, and expectations over such a long period, and yet maintain such a humble, "under the radar" image. Our young players can certainly learn a thing or two about how to conduct themselves from this man (& Dravid, Laxman).

Anyway, I'm not complaining really. Could care less what people say about him. All I know is that the day he retires will be a sad, sad day for cricket.

Well that's a weird rant from centurymaker if ever there was one, but one point in particular stands out:

I would suppose, then, that you must have known Tendulkar personally for years. You obviously know a lot more than the rest of us armchair speculators.

Do you spend most of your time catching up in India or New Zealand?

Let's not ruin this thread with Sydney-gate talk. There's no need to bring up that topic here.
well then you guys need to warn people who constantly bring it up by saying something like tendulkar has hearing issues... (most mods already know who that person is who resurrects stuff like this all the time through baits).

I have read a number of articles on his personal life (people's first hand experiences). I've listened to him talk about life several times so i don't know where you are coming from here. I have followed him as closely as one could follow over the last 6 years. His batting isn't as great as it is often made out to be, but he's an awesome guy.
It's a well know fact that tendulkar's a top bloke. It's a shame that you guys have been deluded by the ****ed up bull **** that tendulkar fans have been saying for years...

This guy is a no.1 role model.
the way he conducts himself - almost everything he does is exemplary. his batting comes a distant 2nd.

Neither, they're usually spotted chatting each other up during Wimbledon.

Here's Sachin's reaction after CenturyMaker tells him of the amount of votes Hussey has received on CW.
