***Official*** Australia in South Africa

Yeah it would be and for that reason, I'm changing my opinion. They have to respond.
Yeah, AWTA. They spent two years doing absolutely nothing whilst the Australian batting lineup lurched from one collapse to another; the only batsman who paid the price for some shocking form with his place in the side was Marcuss North. Hussey's been extremely fortunate with his form in the last year; you'd have to think that there is pretty much bugger all of a case to retain Ricky Ponting though. I think the incumbents have certainly benefitted from a lack of a properly viable alternatives when it comes to the batting order, but if Ponting is still one of the best six batsmen in the country then you might as well give up.

Will be interesting to see what the fallout from this Test is given the way the selectors have backed themselves into a corner with some of their selections, particularly the opening pair.

Yeah. Honestly thought the below was the worst collapse I'd ever seen but this Test wipes the floor with it.

My over-riding memory of that day was Thorpe's face as he walked off after becoming Ambrose's 6th victim. Complete shell-shock.

I guess Ambrose in that mood offers some mitigation but it was all doubly painful because England had been more than competitive before that horror session.

Yeah that was at least led by an all time great fast bowler, the one playing today only took 2 wickets.

Not sure who Australia would really bring in though? Katich should be playing instead of Hughes and maybe Ponting's time is up but don't know what else you can change.

Today was a freak though, yeah there have been consistant failures but 21/9 if a one off.
Katich has unfortunately ensured that he will never represent Australia again by throwing his toys out of the pram after being cut from the contract list.

Ponting absolutely has to go.

I'd bring in Khawaja for Ponting next Test, and I'd put the opening pair on notice. Watson's handy bowling form will probably save his place in the XI but I'm far from convinced he's a good enough opening batsman.

Easier said than done with Marsh's latest injury.

Can't see OZ winning from here. If there's one thing SA can do is grind the opposition into the dust when they're having to make all the running.

SA bowlers were awesome, if you had put them against their own batsmen in their second dig I suspect they wouldn't be 81/1 at stumps. All 3 of their bowlers have bowled well and looked threatening. In comparison only one bowler has looked threatening for us and an all rounder. Siddle has his moments but can leak runs and Johnson has just been leaking runs which is all the more reason why they shouldn't be in the same side together. In saying that I wouldn't be surprised to see one of those two winning the match and making me eat some humble pie.

When was the last time a team had 3 top quality quicks playing? And would you include this RSA side as having 3 top quality quicks. For me only Steyn and Morkel are top quality, whereas Philander has just had a great game and needs to prove over time.

Still reckon Australia are a good chance. You bowled these ****s out for 96 with your fifth bowler. One more wicket and you start bringing in more guys who made a hash of last innings but don't have a start behind them like the current pair.

P.S. I find Australia's blatant macho farrrssst attack endearing.

I also wonder whether Mitchell Johnson is Harmison mk II.

Well **** me.

I went to be chuffed when Watson went, then got up this morning and read through the whole thread.

I'll say it again - **** me.

All of England's Tests from Melbourne onwards.

If Broad continues his good form, England.

Some exciting times ahead on world cricket bowling fronts. England and South Africa have awesome opening pairs and some good developing bowlers in Broad and Philander. I rate the Australian attack (I seem to be alone on that one) and the West Indies and Pakistan have the basis of good attacks imo. India is hard to tell since they're so Zaheer reliant seam bowling wise, and Sri Lanka and NZ are struggling. I can't comment on Sri Lanka but we have some good youngsters coming through. We're still well behind the rest of the world though.

Even Zimbabwe have Brian Vitori and Kyle Jarvis, who look set to get good cracks.

Would you consider Bresnan as being top quality?
Based on how he's bowled so far I don't see why not - and by how he's bowled I do mean how he's bowled and just just the figures he's ended up with (which are no doubt excellent anyway).

Should you find that contentious I'll change my answer to "the last time Tremlett played", and I certainly consider Tremlett top quality when he's actually playing.
