Was at that game, was 12 at the time and I don't think I will ever see a more extraodinary day live.
Today was more bizare though, that 2000 we only saw the fag ends of the West Indies innings, followed by a standard England collapse then there was the amazing 54. Today we got a perfectly normal session then a totally ridiculous middle session and a half followed by a fairly normal last hour.

Shocking. I thought the Aussie bats couldn't possibly sink any lower than day 1 Melbourne, day 1 Sydney, day 1 Leeds, etc. (won't bother mentioning the opponents as it sorta makes the point in and of itself). I was wrong. Have never seen an Aussie top-7 bat as poorly as that. The pitch was a bit nippy, the bowling reasonable, the batting abysmal.
Mind you, I still can't see the selectors making the hard decisions. Australia, until very recently, were always thought to be the underdogs for this series so they will potentially play it off as a fait accompli. The level of denial has been so impressive for so long, can't see how even this game will change that. One gets the feeling Haddin, rather than someone like Ponting, may be the sacrificial lamb here. Mind you, after that shot, considering the state of the match, one wonders whether he does deserve to play another Test anyway.

Yeah, the denial will continue. We'll be fed the line that Ponting is still hitting them well in the nets, better than ever in fact. I mean, while guys like him continue to average in the 30s for the last couple of years (and even Hussey during that horror slump) Australia continues to bleed.
This is the identical lineup (but for Marsh) that got bowled out for 90 on Boxing Day, the day England then went to stumps at 0/160 on the very same pitch. And yet we retain the very same batting lineup.
I haven't seen any of the action yet, highlights in 10 minutes or so I think.
What's the story with the SA 2nd innings? Pitch flattening out, bowlers getting carried away or the pitch never that bad to start with? Looks like a lot of 4 balls for a low scoring game...

Yeah. Honestly thought the below was the worst collapse I'd ever seen but this Test wipes the floor with it.

Yeah that was at least led by an all time great fast bowler, the one playing today only took 2 wickets.
Not sure who Australia would really bring in though? Katich should be playing instead of Hughes and maybe Ponting's time is up but don't know what else you can change.
Today was a freak though, yeah there have been consistant failures but 21/9 if a one off.
