Generation Draft

The time limit on picks is 12 hours.

I set it to 12 hours in an effort to keep the draft moving forward, but people are instructed not to be strict about enforcing it. Hanging around until 12 hours to the minute have gone before swooping in with your pick, for example, will be labelled an "Official Dick Move".

If no-one's picked for a while, best to go and remind them, rather than coming straight in. If the person above you hasn't picked for well over 12 hours and you feel you really have to pick now because you won't be around for a while, go ahead and pick. But acting to the very letter of the law will be officially regarded as "Acting Like A Bit Of A **** About It" and result in you probably losing votes.

Edit: For the first pick, zaremba has as much time as necessary because he won't know the draft has started if he's not been online.

Gonna say no. Bradman is banned because he's the only one to be basically an auto-win for whoever gets him, and there'd be no strategy to getting him. I want to include as many players as possible, because this is a draft about cricketing history.
Same applies for Grace surely?

Grace (and Sobers tbh) should probably be automatic first picks in those rounds, yes, but I'm not excluding Bradman on that basis. I'm excluding him because the team that has Bradman in it, unless something absurd happens, is going to win.

No other cricketer ends the game halfway through like that.

Sorry on two counts
First, for the delay
Second, for picking WG Grace

Fred Spofforth is an easy choice.

BTW, I have another suggestion. When we reverse the order of draft from one round to another, probably we should shift from one era to another, so that the last participant in the first round has a similar advantage as the first participant in the first round.

Brilliant suggestion IMHO.

Great idea...

But it should be designed such that all eras are not visited within the first 6 rounds, for example - so that the draft remains interesting throughout.

I'll suggest this:

Round 1: Grace era, Round 2: Rhodes era,
Round 3: Rhodes era, Round 4: Grace era,
Round 5: Bradman era, Round 6: Sobers era,
Round 7: Sobers era, Round 8: Bradman era,
Round 9: Imran era, Round 10: Tendulkar era,
Round 11: Tendulkar era, Round 12: Imran era.

Nah, disagree with this. As per that logic you could wind up being 1st in the Bradman era twice for example. You end up with more top players from a certain era and less from another and I think that somewhat defeats the purpose of a generation draft. If you're first in one era, you also have to be last in that same era imo. It makes it more even. Just leave it the way it is, its fine like this.

What's the rule by the way? The player should have played at least a test in the time span, right?

At the risk of sounding like a moron I ask, so if a player played excatly half of his tests in one span and the other half in another then is he not eligible for this draft thread? :p

Well if such a player needs to be picked we'll talk about it when the time comes. It'll be either that the player is ineligible, or eligible for both time spans. Which of those options I will decide on will depend entirely on how much I like the person that's trying to pick.

Should be eligible for neither timespan IMO, as per this post:

They have to have played the majority of their Tests in the timespan, i.e. more than 50%.
