Hussey shouldn't be batting at 6 in this kind of form. There's been too many collapses as of late and he's been forced to up the ante with the tail and got out in that way far too often in recent times.
There is literally no one I would rather doing this than Mussey though.

what and move a guy who averages 89 there?!

Def think Ponting and Hussey should swap but alas.

I miss Hauritz in the lower order

Smith and alma don't have great records against Australia, and all you have to do is bowl straight full balls to dismiss Kallis.....

*PURE GOLD* JACQUES KALLIS - CLEAN BOWLED COMPILATION...... - YouTube

Yes, definitely below their records against other nations though Smith was Man of the Series in Australia and was sawn off by a umpires at least three times in the corresponding series in 2005/6.

Looks like de Villiers may not be a factor until the second test so they might have to go with the underperforming Duminy. With Smith and Boucher out of form they have their problems too.

What the **** that does that have to do with anything?
Rough to criticise him about not getting enough top-order wickets when half of them got out before he could actually do anything. Besides which, he got Marsh... although the description sounds like Marsh had a lot to do with his dismissal.

Because criticising a 5-for by saying it's "mostly tail" is only a criticism if it shows he couldn't get top order batsmen out. The top three were already out by the time de Lange came on to bowl, so you can't knock him for not getting them out.

Except I never said that...you can only do what's presented to you in the situation, but at the end of the day 4 out of his 5 wickets in his impressive figures are tail...

Well it's ****ing obvious that he's mainly gotten lower order wickets because he didn't bowl to half the top order.

I noticed he hit Hussey on the helmet just before lunch. He's only 21 so you can understand why he wouldn't be opening the bowling.

BTW if de Lange can take a five-fer against Australia but Copeland can't even take one first innings wicket against a randomly selected SA team why are people so confident that he'll be successful against Kallis and the boys?

Because one innings isn't everything? (Of course for much of the past few years the Australian selection policy has been based on one standout performance....)

Brad Haddin averages close to 40 in Tests... yes, he's in a horror run with the bat but let's be fair here.
