Quite right...I remember in one of the Tests, NZ were really struggling - a few down for not many, on a turning deck against spinners bowling very tightly. And he couldn't understand for the life of him why they weren't charging down the pitch and banging them over the pavilion.

But you have to respect him for reinventing his game - remember him being a slow-scoring FC specialist early in his career.

Had a personal tragedy to overcome as well.
