The big question is not about Copeland v Cummins it's about whether the selectors have the guts to drop Johnson and go in with an attack of Harris, Copeland and Cummins.

AAlso I can't believe Hauritz didn't make the squad. Sure Lyon got 5 fer in the first game but he didn't look that great after that.

Hauritz has hardly played a game, I think, since he hurt himself last summer.

Lyon bowled well in SL IMO.

Howie, I agree with you only to some extend. If the gap in quality between a young player and a developed player is only small, then by all means pick the young gun (eg Hughes vs Jaques). I don't agree with not picking the better player because of their age though. If we had have followed that advice we would never have picked Hayden or Hussey. After all, Haydos had been "exposed" at international level. Hussey was the wrong side of 30 when he debuted! Stuart Clark was picked at 30 and served us well for a few years. Winning is about putting the best team on the paddock.

Cummins looks the goods, but I really hope that he doesn't get a game until he's at least run through one side at domestic level.

I agree with that in principle, but it's not always that black and white.

When in a 'rebuilding phase' (you can argue whether or not Australia are in one of them at the moment, but whatever) you have to take more of a long term approach at times. Short term losses for a greater longer term gain.

Now I'm not advocating or defending what they've done with Katich, beacause I think Australia could have gained something in the long term by still having him around the group, but there comes a time where you have to suck it up and take the mediocre results in the short term for sustained success in the years ahead.

Hang on, what about Siddle? Siddle should be ahead of Cummins in the pecking order for sure.

Yeah and the scariest thought is that after his performance in the last test, and Copeland's performance in the shield game that they'll pick Siddle ahead of both Copeland and Cummins.
