Interesting choice. Would have thought Younis or Misbah would be a lot more likely.
It's actually not a bad shout, the more I think about it.

Firstly he's an opener, who are a lot more likely to make the biggest scores than middle order bats like Misbah. He's in a good run of form, his next 6 Tests will be on UEA shirtfronts, three of those will be against a shaky looking Sri Lankan attack, and he usually scores his runs at a good pace which means he's very unlikely to get declared on or carry his bat.

The main thing to get past is that Hafeez has a deserved reputation for chucking away his starts. But he's improved a hell of a lot more than I thought he was capable, so maybe he's going to keep up the learning curve and give us a big innings too? I think it's a good call, at least for an outside bet.

Think Shane Watson could be a similar case, a better player of course but who has had similar problems, can really dominate attacks though, maybe a chance against New Zealand or India.

Would also be hilarious to see him get out for 299.
