Pathan is fairly ordinary most of the time, but unlike a lot of cricketers he can claim to have actually won matches for his country before. I'd have expected him to at least be around a depleted squad for a home series.

Has there been some talk around him not being in decent form recently? CLT20 and that?

I'm sure they have their reasons for not picking him, and I don't really disagree either. I just think it's rather unfair to just call him **** and leave it at that. And considering that he's been around the squad for some time now, I'd have thought that they'd use him when they've got so many injured / rested players.

Yep.

Munaf,Ishant,Pujara and Rohit too.
munaf should be nowhere near the squad. he's a massive liability.
gives away extra 10-15 runs every match through poor fielding and scores fewer runs than anyone else whenever he gets a chance to bat.

he starts every game on minus 20 runs.

Hmm....

Was pretty useful in the World Cup though and then was pretty good in the IPL. Though, was **** in England in different conditions.

Has experience of bowling in the Indian conditions and has been consistent in India in ODI's over a period now.

He is pretty useful in a specific role tbf.

He can really launch into the bowling, when a acceleration is needed and so down the order is pretty useful when he can be shifted up too depending on the situation. And having said that, he has also improved his ability to play the long innings over time too.

Also can contribute about 5 overs of decent quick and tight overs every match when required.
He is a bit hit or miss for sure, but with a strong batting lineup ahead of him can be pretty useful to add the extra bit which can win a match or make a telling difference.

Compared to Jadeja, specially in India he is better and more useful with the bat, while Jadeja is a better bowler. But with other part time spinners also becoming more effective in India, the extra bowling from Jadeja or someone else as 5th bowler, bowling 10 overs ever match is not that crucial as per the balance of the team.

Ravindra Jadeja making the squad yet again despite being nowhere near good enough shows the clout Niranjan Shah enjoys in national selections. Why can't they ever realise he's useless? Can't bat much, a poor flat bowler occupying a spinner's position and a fielder who's more harm than good. Yusuf Pathan is a better batsman, Ashwin is a better bowler and Shukla bowls seam-up. Dire beyond dire.

If you are Kris Srikkanth, you can pick half of the TN one-day squad in the national side, and it would still be better than wasting space on this bloke. TN actually win OD trophies. Saurashtra just have that man in a high place.

What became of that young, left arm quickie who played for the Rajasthan Royals in the first season or two of the IPL? Kamran something?

Vinay Kumar is **** and won't ever amount to anything more than ****.

Munaf Patel should never be allowed near any team for the simple reason that his body language is just the most abysmal and dispiriting I have ever seen in an international sportsman.

Even as the series is on, that ridiculous Challenger Trophy has Harbhajan as a squad captain. Maybe that's his ticket back into the Indian side later in the series? There doesn't appear to be a proper replacement for Harbhajan, each time he's dropped, and the Indians have lost that series. First it was England in England, then the Asia Cup. None of Powar, Chawla and Ojha have looked impressive. Powar's past it and out of contention, Chawla's erratic and Ojha's flat all the time.

Patel's a poor choice. Not good enough in ODIs. Shikhar Dhawan is a much better (and actually proper) batsman, and should have been the reserve.

A strong top six would be Rahane-Gambhir-Kohli-Dhoni-Tiwary-Raina. The bottom five, though, will be dicey. Both Kumars are a certainty, unless you want to push it with both Aaron and Umesh, but while Aaron is a good OD bowler, Umesh isn't. Aravind is a good domestic performer, but very raw, and would struggle to stay in the side. India would do well to stick to Ashwin and Rahul throughout the series. Rahul's an interesting spinner to watch, and will be quite a handful, and also a capable player outside his main facet. Ashwin, seriously, is a far better bowler than Jadeja and can contribute as much with the bat, though differently. So Praveen-Vinay-Aaron-Rahul-Ashwin it is?

Yuvraj hasn't recovered yet?
