The difference between bowling and chucking.

From what I've heard that Mekiff was not a "habitual chucker" apparently. He had a fine action in most of the deliveries compared to a certain Ruchira Perea whose every ball was a chuck. Mekiff selected few special moments to chuck it seems. And I am quite sure Mekiff is not the only one who do it in international cricket. Habitual chucker is far more "innocent" than bowler who pick and choose when to chuck.
I'm not sure it's a case of 'picking and choosing when to chuck' as having the problem when you bowl an effort ball. I think they're both as bad as each other to be honest. If you chuck it you chuck it. Whether it's 2 balls in 50 or all the time. The latter would probably be harder to fix though.

Absolutely. For some reason it sounds like you're telling him off when he's pretty much agreeing with all you said....

Yeah I am. Which is why I couldn't understand what the problem was. I was starting to get a complex thinking what I thought I wrote and what I actually wrote must have been two different things. I never said anything about not accepting the ruling when a player has been scientifically tested...as much as Murali supporters seems to get annoyed when his name is bought up in these threads, there also seems to be a certain acquired reading problem that coincides with 'Murali' being written in any post.

Are you saying that some players deliberately throw it? Don't think I have ever thought a bowler was doing it deliberately.

Edit: D'oh beaten to it.

The deliberation might come as the effort ball. They migth not know it, or some times they might know it as well, because a chuck can be felt at the elbow if you are not a habitual chucker.

Meckiff himself always maintained that his arm simply wouldn't fully straighten

Interesting stuff JBMAC - wish I knew of it before I wrote this, though I don't think I'd have written it much differently - curious that the meddling Alderman Jones seems to have been forgotten
If I may quote this , your last paragraph,
"
It was to be more than thirty years before the issue of unfair bowling actions started to become a hot topic again. Ian Meckiff, now 74 years of age, is enjoying a happy and peaceful retirement without controversy, and he has, no doubt wisely, kept his own counsel, in public at least. It would however be interesting to know his thoughts on the subject in the light of Cricket Australia's recent pronouncements regarding the doosra, and to imagine how his career, and those of others, might have unfolded had the powers that be decided, then as now, not to banish but to change the way the laws of the game were interpreted in order to accommodate them."
And relate it to what Ian says towards the end of part 2

Undergoes stringent testing of her stock delivery regularly.

Trying to convince her to show me the one that goes the other way though...

Have you tried reversing your grip and taking a couple of strides down the wicket?

Otherwise the onus is on you to convince her the main strip is an unplayable dusty turner (wear a helmet when you mention this) and that you're going to have to adjourn play to the adjacent pitch.
