Yeah, he has a phenomenal record. Hobbs was the senior partner and always considered the greater player - his record is extraordinary too when you look at how much cricket he played before WWI and how old he was when he finished up.

Saeed Anwar has almost 40% innings of 50+. That's awesome. Surprised to notice that he had such a short test career!

The Sean

Cricketer Of The Year
Clyde Walcott unlucky to miss out there, having passed the 50 mark "only" 29 times in his 74 innings. If he made the cut, he'd come in between Anwar and Walters.

I'm really surprised to see Walters so high in this list tbh.

Having checked his stats one wonders why he isn't more highly rated than he is. Noone seems to ever really talk about him.

Is this a joke or are you serious?
He is very obviously taking the piss. Scientifically. Let's not go there in another thread.
I was being serious. if there ever was an opportunity to dismiss not outs, you would do it in this situation, but only for scores where you get not out for under 50.

So for Bradman he had a 37* and a 30* so for this 'scientific' calculation I would be happy enough if someone said he made 42 50 plus scores in 78 opportunities.

Of course if he had of batted faster he might have been 51* instead of 37*, but that's neither here nor there.

absolutely agree with this approach of yours...

It requires slight qualification outside the 'rules' but as an opener.

My all-time favourite player. His greatness is such as to be above such mere statistical discussions.

The bottom of Ankitj's list is the more interesting part than the top, imo. Among the allrounders and keepers that aren't expected to pass 50 all that much comes a flurrly of mercurial players that failed so often but were kept in because they could produce magic innings. Hooper, Gibbs, Astle, Jayasuria, Aravinda, Slater.

And also Marvan Attapattu is right down there. In Andy Zaltzman's words: "The game of an orthodox grinder, the statistics of a temperamental, bat-hurling, tortured, tantrum-throwing genius." Hardly any fifties, but a lot of double-centuries.

It requires slight qualification outside the 'rules' but as an opener.

Shane Watson 16 from 36 44.44%
I had been wondering.

Interestingly for Bradman to fall into second place on this list he'd need to score under fifty in 11 consecutive innings. That would mean a full five test series without a score over fifty, followed by at least one innings in the next series without a half century.

To fall behind Sobers he'd need to play forty more innings without scoring a single half century.

To fall behind Healy he'd have to play another 214 innings without scoring a half century.
